I wanted to position my gadets anywhere on my desktop so I got rid of the dock itself. Now on every reboot my 'free' gadgets seem to straft left (a little)...annoying.

Anybody else experiencing this slight problem?

Thanks

Interesting. I haven't experienced it myself, any chance you could get a couple of screen shots, once before reboot, once after to take a look at the position difference?
After four reboots you can see all three gadgets have moved gradually from right to left. When Vista loads up the gadgets are the last set of objects to appear on my desktop. During the process all I have done is edit a word document, MSN auto-logged in and I used IE7.

This started happening as soon as I binned the dock; three months after getting Vista Ultimate on a new HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop.

Here is a listing of known bugs with Siderbar RTM. It looks like there are a few strange positional problems in there. I would normally say check for config files or reg keys for an issue like this, but honestly it has to be storing positional data already, and if it is stored, it is being called incorrectly, so that advice would be fruitless. All you can really do is wait for a fix on it.

My bigger question to myself was why didn't I notice this, as I have developed a few personal sidebar gadgets. If I may ask a somewhat far fetched question, if you attempt to move them 50px or so from the side of your display, ie: not on the edge of your environment, does it act the same way?
Four reboots...I dont think the gadgets moved the first time (same with the above) or they did and it wasnt a substantial amount for me to notice.

Hope this is what you were after

Cool
Bummer, I was hoping it had something to do with the way the application is reading the bounds of the display, but it looks like it is just deducting 10px or so from the value it saves on reboot, which is just wierd.

I really need to put Vista on this laptop again, I'm curious about this one. If I set it to auto-reboot in 2 minute intevals for about three hours, will my gadget render off screen, or produce an error, will it continue after the error?

I'll play with it at home.

As for the issue it self, I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful with it. I guess if you knew where the positions were being stored prior to shutdown you could run a script to modify it to the value it is now plus however many pixels it's deducting, but that isn't really what I would call a fix.
I think the moving gadgets issue was also bugged during the beta. Looks like it still isn't fixed, let's hope for sp1 to fix it.
