I guess this means that openness and freedom is less important to Google than getting an equity share.

Sigh. More fluff from the one hit wonder... I'm eagerly waiting until his VC capital runs out, then he may be back to do some real work.

You talking about Eagle?

Open up how? None of those sites is acting as a social network application platform... do you want to write Channel9 apps?

Well maybe then I might be able to post from my browser of choice instead of what the textbox supports (or doesn't as the case may be).

Ning is cool, though it may never be #1 there are many people using it.

This certainly was the subtext of the Web 2.0 Summit, it's a Widgets Web now and Facebook is just an incubator.

I thought Web 2.0 was about rich user interfaces and social interaction. While widgets can certainly look good and have snappy response, where is the community in/behind them?
I like it. I'm quite happy with Linked In, except it being only for professional social networking. Facebook, not so much. Tons of app's. Pretty low configurability. Boring fixed looks. Bring the services. Smiley
I'm on both LinkedIn (please add me) and Facebook, and whilst I think FB can be fun it gets a little inane after a little while.  Not sure what I can expect from LinkedIn apps - but I can't wait to find out Smiley

The web is better when it's social

Google get's it, the web is about people.

OpenSocial provides a common set of APIs for social applications across multiple websites. With standard JavaScript and HTML, developers can create apps that access a social network's friends and update feeds.

Eagle,
S&^t man, will you please stop talking. It's not like you know what you're saying anyways.
