NOW THAT WOULD BE SLICK!
a kind of "3d display" ... kinda....
that has a dropshadow, for real! the button is raised so the light in the room casts a shadow !
I bet it can be done, but would cost a $$$$$$ to make at first...
very cool, but the other thing I'd like to see is a "roll up" display
so you have say a small stick like thing - or a kind of tube with a part you grab and pull on it.... now you have a small screen while you use it. then it rolls back in and is protected from scratching.
Hypothetically it's possible.
You could do it physically with a bunch of pins,
a la Pinpression, but that's mechanical and would have to be positioned underneath the display hardware (along with bending it, not good). And bendable screens in their current state suck, so that's out of the question.
They might want to look into transparent materials which expand or compress depending on whatever electrical charge is applied. They'd have to find a way to address and charge each "push pixel" (they don't have to be high-resolution, a push-pixel which covered an area of about 10x10 display pixels would be fine, it's not as though the human finger is that accurate).
This is an interesting time indeed.
