So we all know that networking in Vista is screwed up and I am amazed that 1 year after release it still doesn't work. What happens to me? well after about 8 hours of use most applications loose their internet connection (wireless and lan) - Most? you ask ... yes - things like outlook still get/send mail, IE/FF stop working, chat stops etc. maybe office just "wishes" the data over the air Cool

So I need to reboot to get back my connection - great, here is the problem. After getting the "logging off" and then "shutting down" for an un-determined amount of time my machine just blue screens ... awesome.

That means for one I can never "shutdown" as the blue screen causes a restart. Now lets compound this - if I resume from Sleep or Hibernate I get an ACS (acs.exe??) crash and guess what - no internet. So I need to do the above BSOD sequence - (left eye twitching).

This is Vista certified hardware from Lenovo - "certified" I guess means Vista will run ... what it does while running isn't "certified" but at least I know my drivers are pretty good.

So once or twice a day I must force a BSOD to keep surfing, I can't resume, sleep, shutdown or restart with a BSOD so installing updates is fun.

Boot->Trash Network->Reboot->BSOD->Recover->Shutdown->BSOD->Recover->Work
->Trash Network->Reboot->BSOD and so on .... how much asprine can you take in a day? [A]

Why are you blaming Microsoft and not Lenovo? I've been running Vista for over a year and have rarely had problems with it.

Deductive reasoning would suggest either we are running different versions of Vista (which I highly doubt) or you have crappy hardware/drivers (more likely).

If anything, I suppose you could complain that Microsoft's Vista Certification process isn't rigorous enough.

Or the fact that almost all my team has Thinkpads running Vista with no problems...
Hi,
I feel your pain. I went back to Win XP. No more vista for me.

MS screwed up with vista. It became a painful experience and its an OS that you really cannot work with.

Perhaps in the future, the next OS that MS ships, would be as per- formant as Win 2k3 Server, and as workable as XP.

Don't break usability nor GUI, in your desperation to imitate Apple's Operating Systems.

Vista caused al ot of "personality complexes" for a lot of people because it inherently "non-workable"

Wow indeed!.[C]

I use it at work everyday. Never had a problem so that stuffs that argument.

Works a treat at home too so happy as Larry (who ever he is? Never have found out!)

You can say that as much as you want, but it doesn't make it so.  I've never had an issue with networking in Vista.  I'm not dismissing your problems, just trying to keep you honest.  They are your problems, and not a general issue.

You know, the EXACT SAME arguments were given about XP.  By people who now swear that XP is the only OS Microsoft has ever put out that was worth a darn.

Anecdotal stories about *your* issues are just that.
while I do think there are some bugs in Vista I can not say that in my case they are anywhere close to as bad as the ones listed here.

I always wonder about the hardware when folks have major crashes and hangs....

Lenovo makes some laptops that are just like the old IBM thinkpads but they also make some cheap ones that seem totaly different.

is the laptop a top end "Think Pad" or lower-end "Lenovo" ?
let me guess... you have ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) turned on...
A co-worker of mine use IBM or Lenovo Notebook with Vista Business. I don't see major problems. He did have problem with our network. But that's only because he has Symmentic Firewall turn on and Vista Firewall turn on. After the firewall is off, he can see our network with no problem.

His Office2007 crashs quite often though. I prefer build my own PC. Always no problem with XP and Vista. There is no weird customization if that's the whole reason.
I have a Dual boot/ Vista ultimate and MCE 2005 on an older box and am having a hell of a time with Vista. Have had it on since January and has a P4 motherboard with 4 gigs of ram, New GeForce 8800GT Graphics card and 550 Antec power box with an avermedia TV tuner card. Worked great  at first, the first 6 months not one problem. now, when I run it for a half a day it just freezes up and when I shut it down...BSOD on resatrt, so I restore it log off vista and log onto  MCE 2005 for the rest of the day. next day, boot into Vista... No problems, run it all day. Next Day no problems, then BSOD again. No wonder Vista has 5% of the market and XP has 79%
