Seven of Niner! Resistance is Futile!
12 days left to the release of Mass Effect

the first review scored a 97.5%, it is one of the games with longest spoken dialogues (more than 15k lines, more than 400k words (2x times halo and NWN)) and it's coming from the same company that released a lot of other astonishing titles (the latest one being BioShock).

can't ... wait!!! Expressionless
until then i guess we have CoD4 Tongue Out

You know... your thread title looks like it'd be another "When's the year of the linux desktop" Thread... Perplexed

Anyway, I'd like to see a Game, which does look like the real world... nothing so far yet (even if image mapping and todays 3D accelerators would allow it). Embarassed

The problem with photo-realistic rendering is that isn't perfect yet, and I would rather play a game that goes more cartoony/drawn look, rather than failing with perfect realism.

Eh ya wha? Mass Effect is by BioWare, Bioshock is by Irrational Games (now known as 2K Boston/2K Australia). There is no relation there whatsoever. Not even the publisher. Your text is as misleading as your name.

BioWare is behind games like KOTOR (the original), Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights to name a few.

It finds lightbulbs.
I just wanted to point this out:

Heh.
Don't forget, Cryis is coming out on Thursday too.
I've already finished the demo... twice. Even though it only runs at around 20-25 FPS at 1280X960 with no AA on my 8800GTS it still plays very well for such low framerates.

I wish Assasin's Creed was a PC game too.

We don;t need to render the stuff. As for image mapping being a possibility, you can efford... say 1GB RAM for image maps and map them in the game rendering goes for distortion and animation only.
They intend to use the full render stuff, having it looking unreal...
I could use a good game to relax to in the christmas hollidays... Mass Effect looks great.

I remember when 3d games first started and everyone was wowing over what they called "beautiful" graphics, while they were really ugly clunky polygons, and people were just responding to the gee whiz of being 3d

Some 3d games today are starting to look better, although a lot of them still fall short. Even still I think game designers choose 3d because its easier to develop in modern environments rather than creating thousands of frames of finely rendered graphics.

In some cases though 3d still gets more worship than in deserves, and some games whether or not 3d would look and work better in a top-down perspective, than in a first-person style; but to do something top-down is not even considered an option except for strategy games because everyone thinks first person 3d is the bees knees and penultimate in gaming, when its not.
