What is the most interesting application, and/or algorithm you have ever seen in your life?

Cool. But I was thinking about in the digital world.

A provocative post detection algorithm.

Okay, it hasn't been developed yet, but I can think of a number of uses.
Nothing in particular. In general,
- Physical modelling (any form, be it musical instruments or life)
- Functional algorithms and datastructures for graphics; In the semi-imperative world I'm quite fond of WPF and the move towards more structured and powerful Windows graphics systems
- Functional models of user-interfaces and user-interaction
- Lastly, knowledge representation and knowledge inference (e.g. RDF/OWL frameworks, Conceptual Graphs, etc.)

Mine hasn't changed since I asked pretty much the same question almost exactly a year ago Smiley

I'm not sure where I got it from maybe a DOS 2.0 .bas file that had real heavy math I didn't understand but I was able to figure out the inputs and outputs and wrote a wrapper around it into a simple game.  Character based (25x40/80) of course.  I've still got the source code.
