Thanks to iStartedSomething blog for these pictures and write-ups.

Microsoft Oxygen
Microsoft Oxygen concept desktop system that converts from typical use mode, to media viewing, to pen input.

Microsoft Zinc
Microsoft Zinc concept intended for countertop use.

Microsoft Carbon
Microsoft Carbon concept micro PC with high object value.

Microsoft Argon
Microsoft Argon concept entertainment biased all-in-one PC.

Microsoft Cobalt
Microsoft Cobalt convertible notebook/tablet system.

All I can say is that they are gorgeous! Certainly give the old Mac a run for it's money in the cool stakes. I really hope the real things aren't to far of these examples.

The Oxygen is awesome. I love that Aero glass border. And the stylus holder. Too bad OEMs apparently weren't interested in producing these babies.

By the way, what does 'high object value' mean?

Kind of reminds me of the Novatech fenestra which I notice they no longer sell.

I still hope that the IE8 has the open windows in the top right as small thumbnails Smiley - Like in the window that is shown on this PC's desktop Smiley

That Cobalt is nice, but I don't like the keyboard... that one of the Oxygen's cool...

Also I'd ask myself how to turn around the display? There's somehow missing this hinge inbetween screen and 'operation unit'...
Also it's got a tracking point... ugh...

You never had dreams?
Dreams? I've got a 90-day working copy... I think somewhere... do I?
Yeah, there is reason why they look like Apple products...

The company that designed those was founded by a guy who is a partner at a large design firm (which has to offer 'ammunition' access to a nice pool of talent) but (at least according to the most accurate resource on the planet: Wikipedia) he was also was Director of Industrial Design at Apple Computer.

Former Apple guy does up the PC.

Sweet. So, how long until everything looks like an iPod, again?

And for that matter, can anything beautiful come from somewhere not slightly related to Steve Jobs!?!?!
Not everything Steve Jobs is responsible for is beautiful:

Or this:
and of course there's this torture device: <img src="http://lowendmac.com/usb/art/round_usb_mouse_160.jpg">
there's plenty on current Macs I can point out that isn't beautiful
I like Oxygen, Cobalt and Gateway One...

Dell is too... old-fashioned and have no sence of style.

Apple eMac(?) is boring, both of them including iBook too.

What I really like in Apple - that "sunflower" design.
But unfortunately that model discontunied long time ago... That design would be up-to-date even today.
