I just ran across this on MSN Video. Visual Studio Shell has rocks in.

I don't play WoW anymore, but that is freaking cool. It'll be interesting to see how many of the (wanna be) addon builders pick it up.

Edit: It's on CodePlex if you're addicted curious.

Human after all
I found it a bit disturbing.. as an anonymous idea, great, letting people create easier..

But it just highlighted to me more than anything the way a lot of people see wow, which is an addition to a healthy lifestyle.. or something everyone should have, like a toaster..

How does a UI Addon for Visual Studio show you any of those things?

Back when I did Counterstrike Addons there were simple UI mods like this (perhaps not for VS) which allowed us to develop in Small much easier.

As far as WoW goes... It is only as addictive as you make it. And honestly if people replaced their weekly TV watching with weekly WoW playing (e.g. Socialising, thinking for themselves etc) then they'd be better for it.

If WoW is anything similar to Runescape, you'll spend more time b*tching with your friends when you actually meet with them than having fun. Everything turns into a competition over skills... I'm glad I'm out of that "ring" now.

And you'd be surprised how little socialising it involves; if you're anything like me. I just wanted the skills (to be better than all my friends) and it generally involved doing repetetive tasks. Lots of RPG gameplay involves little socialising, unfortunately. Still, there are times when it's fun - I'm just glad I'm out of there now.

Compared to sitting in front of the idiot box for hours it is a more worth while. Some people do form friendships in a virtual environment shockingly enough.

Most long term WoW players don't play WoW for the game; they play because their friends do (either real or virtual) and that doesn't involve just complaining constantly (although that is fun too!).

That should read "For me..."

Although, I have to say that I've been tempted by EVE on more than one occasion. If I end up with some more time, one of these days, I might give it a try.

I've been tempted too... When I get the cash and a more comfortable mouse/ambient lighting (to get in the mood!) I'll go for it. For now I'll stick to my amateur 0wn1ng on Guild Wars Smiley
