ok... what is up the lack of a plain/ordinary, every other forum seems to manage adding one.. button for blindly quoting a users post...like

blah blah blah

doesn't seem to exist here? nor does it seem to work when you even go as far as typing it aswel. Perplexed

and I know about the quote icon that takes everything somene has posted and puts that in a quote for your reply, thats err nice and useless at times, do I really need to explain why?

lame Cool

[ quote user="Whoever"] whatever [/quote]

is not what I want to have write out to quote a post...

whatever

would be better
I like it the way it is, and you can just do [ quote user=""]balh [ /quote] if it bothers you so much... I've not heard anybody else complain (ever) so I don't think it's something that's going to be rectified.

You can also simply click the quote button..... Too complex?

Not what he meant Charles.

In phpBB and vBulletin, there's an "add quote" button on the Create/Edit post screen which adds the [quote tags and a prompt for who you're quoting, letting you add the text yourself.

It's useful for when you can't remember the exact quoting syntax for a particular website (C9's [quote user=""] syntax is different when compared to phpBB's [quote=] for example).

actually its more useful in replying to multiple posts/topics/sentences/users in a thread..

see your system is ok if you just want to quote 1 person and reply to something they said +there entire friggin post.. unless you manually edit out the jambo Smiley

i'm not sure about you guys but seeing the same post including its images quoted can be silly... so often sensible people split up someones post into multiple quotes and reply to them one after the other.. this is time consuming in that you actually have to write out the whole damn quote tag(or copy/paste whatever is faster) including a username if you want to do it here.. still blind quoting is just as effective.. its not that hard to pickup on who one person is replying to if one just follows the thread..

why on earth you can't just add the tags in for blind quoting so it works at least.. i don't care about the button (although it would be quicker to hit that and have it auto generate the quote tags, so one can just paste text into it), or the popup text box that asks you to stick in the text(heck thats just as annoying sometimes).

anyway having just a blind quote button, or even the tags working is just easier to do, its also better than quoting someone with "blah"  as a proper tag quote displays in quoted manner on the final post, makes it easier for other readers to spot if nothing else.

is it really this hard to stick to standards.. and it seems like a pretty standard thing on many other boards actually ..did you guys know that? seriously just about every other forum can manage adding this into it.. come here.. oh no no... were doing things differently around here Expressionless

oh well food for thought for the next C9 board or whatever yeah.
Maybe a thought would be for when users are chopping up posts, have it "follow" if you will via a somewhat "intelligent" editor?

OR

Have everything as it usually is but [exclude] enter text [exclude]

so something like:

Person1 wrote:
Lorem ipsum dicolor...

"Yeah I agree"
Person1 wrote:
sit amet

"Completely agree"

would then be

Person1 wrote:
Lorem ipsum dicolor... [exclude]Yeah I agree[/exclude] sit amet [exclude] completely agree [/exclude]

The latter would then render as the first did in the editor... but in theory the latter is much simpler for flamefests when people chop everything up for that special "added effect".

Whoa I need a lie down
