In The Mix...
Hi All,

Im about to try Vista again, I use an app in XP named PC-Duo, it lets me look at a users screen but i can take control of the keyboard and mouse etc to help them while they can still see.

Can anyone reccommend a similar app that runs in Vista? I know my app doesnt work in Vista. I know you can use RDC, but I like to let the user see what I am doing.

VNC : http://www.vnc.com they got a free edition, works fine for me.

Instead of just vanillla VNC, I highly recommend UtraVNC which has improved performance and a bunch of useful extras. http://www.uvnc.com/

LogMeIn works too, and has a free version (not open source though).

It's not stupid; It's advanced!
Remote Desktop is really easy to use, and about 1000 times more responsive than LogMeIn.  If you connect from another Vista computer that can run Aero, you can even get Aero over the remote connection.

But he stated he wants the user behind the real computer to see what he does, and Remote Desktop cannot do that (though remote assistance can, so that would be another alternative). Also Remote Desktop doesn't work through firewalls/NAT (unless you can configure them to forward the connection, which is not always possble) and isn't available on Home editions of Windows (the client is but not the server).

This is maybe more than what you are looking for, but Smart technologies has a classroom management software that will let you observe/control a user's computer and is compatible with Vista.

Hope it's what you are looking for.

I tried it TightVNC once but I found Remote Desktop better, faster and more responsive. RDP6 can also stream the 3d desktop compositing so you can use aero and flip3d on your client. sadly it's present only on the expensive Vista Business and Ultimate SKUs Sad
try uising radmin....but i dont know if its compatible with vista....but i think newer versions will..

Here is a copy of a hacked Remote Assistance folder Ixdatul and myself created. Follow the instructions on that thread and you won't even have to wait for them to "Accept" your "Invitation". Man, was I suprised when I found out it was just a fancy web page.
Try z2 Remote2PC. It's free with basic features and works much better than vnc for Vista.

If you stumbled and fell down, it doesn't mean yet, that you're going in the wrong direction.
Remote Desktop has 2 modes. You need "Remote Assistance" mode. Only one disadvantage - user has to initiate connection by sending invitation. You can't just connect to his PC remotely.

The other disadvantage is that it never ever works.

Also, this is an old thread.

Never?!?! Never say never.
It works on my machine! Smiley

PS: Are you using "very remote" connection behind firewalls and internal IPs? So "SharedView" is (...was?) a good app.
But seems like SharedView is buried by MS without proper funeral...
