Ok, I'm sure this has been asked before but, when are we going to get the option for cardspace login here at channel9?

Someday I'm sure, but we don't have any current plans to implement it.

Why not? Cardspace seems like a really good and well thought out idea, but I haven't seen it used anywhere on the internet.

I'd have thought that Microsoft should at least use it as an option for some of the places where you can login (such as C9, hotmail etc)

Duncan can give you the exact explanation, but I'm not sure why it's a big deal for us to implement it.  We already have Forms Auth and Windows Live ID.  Do you need a 3rd way to login?  I think we have more important issues to work on, such as finishing the C9 beta (that's our current task) and shipping to the new site.

It's not that it's needed, it's just that it might get some publicity for the Cardspace team and the things they are working on. Nobody wants to be the first to implement a new technology, particularly one that's mostly untested and from a third party company (Microsoft).

By allowing it as a third option, hopefully Microsoft would be able to persuade people at C9 and C10 and hotmail etc, that actually Cardspace is a simple and powerful idea that other people might want to implement for themselves as part of their blog, say.

It's not that it adds functionality to C9, it's that it adds awareness to Cardspace.

Yup, I understand.  We have no problem installing new technologies.  It doesn't mean we're going to add it just for that though.

Well the hotmail team already use it. There are live implementations (a store in Germany and the Singapore Goverment and some interesting things I've been involved with, but can't talk about).

Implementation in blogs was stalled because of the SSL requirement. That's now gone, but it's going to be a while before people start to integrate it, although there are wordpress plugins now.

Links?

A search on WP.org doesn't return anything for "cardspace"

I don't when we will do this, but it seems likely that we will... if only for the reasons you mention later around demonstrating its use.

Timing is uncertain though...

I have many problems with cardspace's use on a site like this (a web forum, blog), the main one being that I just don't get how I am supposed to use my 'card' in multiple places. Here at the office on each of my machines, at my house, from a mobile phone or an iPod Touch, at an internet cafe (all places I've posted to on10.net or C9 in the past while)... how do I do that? In other situations, like banking or secure access to corporate resources, the mobility of credentials is a secondary concern to the security provided, but for making comments on a video? It just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

So... it seems that if we added it, it would be purely as a demo... and while we are part of a 'demo building' team, we have so many things that people would rather we work on that it seems unlikely we'll get to cardspace anytime soon.
