I notice this a lot with my hotmail account where at the top is Flash advert that I accidentally roll-over and maximize to full screen, thus getting in the way of what im doing.

It’s come to my attention once more as I log into Live Messenger, browse my emails in the 'Windows Live Today' window. There is a Volkswagen advert at full pelt covering the screen by default then minimizing to its designated spot.

Surely this kind of advertising could be deemed intrusive and of bad taste. Could we see legislation catch up with modern day advertising standards and ban these methods?

Thanks

Yep, I have to agree with you, there.

I'm finding that I when I surf to a page, in order to get the scrollbar to work, I have to click somewhere on the page.  I'm having to actively NOT click until the page is completely loaded because you can't really tell where the next javascript doohicky is going to exists.

And, don't get me started on those retarded double-underlined words that want to pop up when your mouse happens to roll over them.

I wonder how many advertisers understand that there is a population of people who will purposefully NOT purchase your products when we're bombarded with this crap.
Firefox, and one of the numerous adblocks there are. No more stupid flash.

Legislation won't work on this kind of stuff. If it's getting too irritating, you can try contacting the Hotmail or Windows Live team to see what can be done about it, but ultimately it's a way of boosting their profits for something which is being delivered to you for free, so I suspect you might be on to a loser there.
There's something wrong if you're using not only Hotmail, but Myspace as well...

Talk about co-incidence...maybe time to switch to FireFox then.

Download IE7Pro, it has a built in ad-blocker and flash blocker. Works great.
