The Taliban? What the hell?

Lets see, French is spoken in multiple countries. Spanish is spoken in multiple countries. German is spoken in multiple countries. English is spoke in multiple countries. Japan's userbase is an awful lot more than Italy's.

I doubt it's about countries, it's about languages and user size.

Yes. For the English, French, Spanish, German, and Japanese languages. The other ones take longer.

Hmm... do we see italian anywhere in this list???

No??? (you're down at 21)

Funny that.

Although it does beggar the question why French, and not portugese?

I can understand not doing Chinese / Arabic and the other languages at the top in the first wave. Because they're really frackkin' hard, whereas the romance and germanic languages are roughly similar to english, and so they just picked off the top few languages which weren't going to be a significant challenge and cover the widest chunk of the world.

But why not Portugese? Too similar to spanish to be worth differentiating in the first wave? Or are there not enough Portugese-speaking windows users?

Number 21. Anyway, it doesn't really matter which language is most widely spoken, because I doubt that the majority of China has a copy of Windows. What would be interesting is seeing the sales of localised versions of Windows.

Um are you serious? Anybody and everybody with a computer in China has Windows, they just don't pay for it. [6]

That is why I keep on saying that software should be available in English everywhere, no matter where you live (better maybe, English should be available at install time as a language choice).

There will always be languages left out or that are released later because of market size and so on.

If we all make a little effort to speak some English, don't we all gain by creating a larger community of people who can exchange ideas? It doesn't mean we have to loose our own colture, it means we can exchange more ideas, opinions, and products (and in this case computer programs) with others.

And as any English man will tell you English is the universal language. You just have to speak louder and slower to anyone foreign.

I've highlighted the essential part. Also, Microsoft is obviously only going to care about legal copies.

SETUP & DEPLOYMENT IMPROVEMENTS

 Enables global organizations to more easily deploy SP1 in a multi-lingual environment, as SP1 includes all 36 language packs. However, this change contributes to the increased size of the standalone package.

Sorry, are you complaining that the stand-alone installation package is large? (The part you reference above is an explanation as to why the standalone install for SP1 is huge, which is that it has to contain all languages by default, as users can have a wide range of languages installed on their systems, regardless of the language version of vista they purchased.)

Or that you don't get SP1 until April?

Or is it that you don't understand the documents you're quoting? [6]
