Yada yada yada!
and some teams are not happy.
Read what the guys at the Renault team have to say regarding the Microsoft' software and its predecessor.

Of course you can just put out nonsense and blame Microsoft (it's fashionable), or you can do your homework and learn a bit about Formula One, its governing body, and its rules.

I wonder why only Renault complains Tongue Out This is a rule that affects them all and the box was designed by the FIA - so what?

We're not informed if the new unit sucks because of issues involved in Microsoft's implementation, or if these are FIA-imposed limits.

I don't see the point in limits in F1 racing, how about an F0 "Anything goes" racing series, where the only rules are to get from A to B in the least amount time and preferably without killing or hurting the audience or other competitors too badly?

The removal of traction control is a new rule. I would expect that such a change would cost even more than .4sec/lap...

Yes, but the thing about it being physically larger points to a failing at MS. But since when did MS make their own automotive hardware?

Did MS actually make the hardware, or is it just MS software running on some third-party box?

But did you know that the common ECU that everyone now uses is the one used by McLaren? Its not a new, untested piece of kit. Its proven.

... all I'm saying, better yet, what Renault is saying is they're loosing 0.4s per lap, and that's the fact...

I hope you're not saying Renault are slow because of the ECU? They're slow because of their aerodynamics if anything.

The other possibility, they're sandbagging to hide their real speed over winter testing. That isn't unknown in F1.

I do believe it's called Full Auto

Be serious. That wouldn't be allowed in F1. Its dangerous. The seatbelt must be a 6 point harness. Don't want anyone being killed you know. Rest of the stuff is ok though Wink

What I want to know is... who the hell is firing those machine guns Expressionless

I've played that game. Pure awesomeness... if you make a big mistake (like blow yourself up) you can go back in time (not unlimited-ly) a few seconds and try to fix it.

Why? It's entirely possible to design a F1 car that weights a lot less than 600kg. But the rules prevent it. Maybe it's part of the regulations?

They don't. They just provide the software.

Let's not try to read too much in that simple comment...

One more thing, the article says that the new box is way underpowered compared to the Magneti Marelli one, and yet it provides the same performance (assuming that 0.4sec/lap are lost to the lack of traction and brake control).

To me, that means the code is a lot more efficient, right? Smiley

As with all MS software, you just have to reformat & reinstall sometimes. Bloatware, you know. I bet that's it.

Yeah. The AOL browser that came with the car's speed regulator really slows down the responsiveness.

Serves you right for sticking CDs you find strewn about near your mailbox into your computer!

well, we have drag race at one side

and Sprint race at the other

whichever will suffice your conditions

Now now, don't forget that there's such a thing as necessary bloat.
As anyone who has paid even a little attention to F1 will know, the FIA regulation changes are aimed at slowing the cars down and have been for many years. The reason for doing so is that it increases the possibility of there being some actual racing, rather than just an endless procession of cars who've pretty much already decided the running order in qualifying.
