ok about 5 minutes ago I totally lost the fraking plot - if there is a god please help me find one piece of working hardware magically combined with software before I find myself swinging from a bridge ...

My failing keyboard combined with a wireless adapter that won't stay up results in Mallet->Keyboard=pieces of happiness.

I think besides Vista a mac or at least osx is the only other real option - anyone get much experience with virtual machines on that? still gotta keep my day job with .net Wink

I just want something fast that works - not posting to bash what I'm running now, I'm out of bash right now.

so what does bootcamp do, dual boot?yeah I'm on a 2.2G dual core with 2G Ram now but obviously there is some hardware/driver issues (lenovo) - the mac pros looked nice with 8 cores Smiley

but I could build that too and run vista I guess with 8G ram maybe on the 64bit one ... iron keyboard or something ;)you reckon its worth taking off the anti-v? it saved my (I need to watch my language) last night when a script tried to run from the browser (FF before anyone assumes IE) ...

I'm a .NET developer that uses a Mac. Boot Camp is great! Parallels or VMWare Fusion is fine if you've got a machine with lots of RAM. Linux with VMWare to run Windows is also an option you might also consider if you're on a budget.

ya I got my first ever apple product - apple tv last week, wow ... their stuff is really different, wondering how good the other goodies are but I gotta be realistic, if I can work anymore then no point ...

I was skipping linux because I wanted realiable hardware as well not just the OS but also there are some sweet apps for the mac. I "could" build one but I'm wondering what if the grass is greener in that mac field Wink

i tried using mac for 30 minutes, couldnt find my way through it, hated the mouse button, hated the menus, cant understand what the wiggly symbol in the keyboard means.. (i cant even say what the button name is..), went back to Windows with disgusted look on mac. but then again, that's just me. Smiley

to be fair to any OS you need to give it a few months ... my first time around Vista was a bit traumatic Wink

what about intel-only hardware with vista, lots of ram and no antivirus/antispyware?

I think the real question is, which is more comfortable to type on. I tried the Mac keyboard for a while, but in the end, it just wasn't as good, even if it did look a whole lot nicer.

So if I have this right ....

Your keyboard fails, and you have problems with the wireless adapter ... and you want to change the part of your setup that doesn't appear to be the problem?

Have you checked the batteries in the keyboard by the way?

Actually I had a laminator that chewed up a certificate I'd just picked up. I smashed it to pieces with a hammer. Very therapeutic, and not one piece of equipment in my office has dared to misbehave since.

Always smash up your stuff in full view of your other stuff ... it sends a message.

Oh, and kids ... make sure you get permission from an adult before you take cricket bat to the Sky+ box ....
