Noticed half the people here at work aren't logged in to Live Messenger. Wonder how the servers work, why some can get on, and some can't, even when in the same office.

I wonder how it's even possible for Messenger to go down. Downtime is completely unacceptable, there should be load-balancing, multiple servers in clusters in server farms spread all over the world.

Charles et al: can you get a definite answer for "why?"

EDIT: I'm getting error messages about my UN/PW being incorrect, not that the service is down.

...are the authentication servers b0rked or something?

It was only the sign-in service that was down. As long as I didn't log out I haven't had any issues.

Windows SDK coders do it without a .NET

Windows Update seems to be borked too. Just installed XP on Virtual PC and keep getting errors; it's not a general Internet connectivity issue, everything else there seems to be fine.
