I've been trying to use Windows Live Mail's built in reader for accessing connect newsgroups, but I'm having problems. Anyone able to suggest a good free newsgroup reader?
I agree that Forte Agent is well worth the $29.

Not free, but good for downloading and other things. Well worth the money, and it doesn't cost much. I use it for music and stuff.

What are the issues that you have with Vista Mail? I use it for newsgroups and it works fine.

Vista Mail != Windows Live Mail.

Vista Mail works well with newsgroups; live mail, somehow, under XP is a slow heap of crapola that doesn't perform well at all

I thought it was called "Windows Mail", aka Outlook Express 7.

Well yes it is; but I was trying to make the distinction clear. Pedant.

I'd recommend FeedDemon from News Gator. News Gator has only recently began offering FeedDemon as a free product. I've never used it personally, but I hear very good things. Enjoy! Smiley

http://reader.google.com is great. Ive used many "offline" readers which were ok, but Google's implementation is pretty solid !

ps. Using the service DOES require you having a google account though!

Doesn't work for private newsgroups like the Connect groups, though.

All the above work much better than Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express.

PS: When Microsoft will implement NNTP in Office Outlook?

Another vote for Forte Agent.

I think they do a cut down version for free ...

They haven't done that for a while.

Forte may not offer it as a download anymore but there are many free download sites that have cached versions of the free version.  Type Download "Free Agent" into your favorite search engine.

RSS Bandit also supports NNTP newsgroups. Haven't done much with it, but it seems to work. Don't know about features other than basic reading.
