newly minted Windows consumer marketing vice president Brad Brooks said that Microsoft had been testing lower prices over the past few months and
was surprised to find that the amount of revenue lost was more than made up for by an increase in the number of PC buyers willing to shell out for an upgrade."
lol... no s__t sherlock!
so i guess ultimate will no longer be 499 at staples.. probably 399
(still way too high)
Now if they could get the box price down to OEM level for Ult (aprox 250) you might even see MORE upgrades..
...and if ms released a new windows every year or two like - apple - and got the retail box down to 99$ - people would upgrade in droves...
* i have never understood why i can buy ult for 250 with a cable - but its 500 staples
edit: xp to vista = 6 years / ult costs =
$500 vs: new windows every year - at 99$ x 6 years =
$600
= $100 more over 6 year period - at lower price
