Well I just took the risk to install & restart ..probably a good thing MS only updates its software once in a blue moon.. damn if every software company required you to restart your pc for every update I don't think i'd ever get much work done!!!!
anyway good to see IE8 UI hasn't changed one iota.. same old ugly graphics and layout, with tabs that have those little white pixel corners... -sloppy... I guess in all those months since IE7 came out no one botherd to get the graphics editor out.
oh look that autoscroll button still looks like crap.. jeesh guys I know its just a beta.. but this isn't a good sign

anyway closed IE8 browser and opened up a decent browser to use.. yup Maxthon 1 & 2 +plugins both using the IE8 engine worked just fine without any update.. I suppose this is all that really matters as I can't be arsed to actually test out the IE8 browser. From what I saw on its features list.. it looked like it was just putting in the bare minimum to catch to other browsers.. and even then it didn't seem like it was really aiming at better anything else out there already.
good things is that IE8 renders pages notably much faster than it used to .. transparent layerd .png files covering a page etc could kill IE7, actually testing some of blizzards sites(starcraft2, wow forums etc... ( a company that I am sure sets out to design there sites to make IE users wonder why there junky browser is soo slow) IE8 has put right now, and its seems much better. Of course if running into pages that don't render properly in IE8 is going to be a common occurence then I'm pretty sure no one is going to stay too impressed with what should have been put right years back!
"Edit: Also the Emulate IE7 button requires you to close the page and reopen the browser, which is frankly unacceptable from a consumer point of view. They want to press the button and it to just switch the rendering agent in the current page, at most refreshing the page."
Yes I agree with that. kinda stupid and annoying to expect users to have to restart the browser. I did try test that "IE7 emulate" after coming across a page that didn't render properly..( imageshack) turns out it didn't even render properly in the IE7 emulate on either, and that was after restarting the IE8 browser.. pah.. ridiculous
