Throw away all the news you haven't read. It's not important. If it was important, people will still be talking about it when you get back.
Which should only leave you with your e-mails. Most of those aren't important either.
Now, I'll grant you, I don't get many, so the 4 genuine emails I had waiting after two weeks away wasn't a problem. But if my wife could deal with a two week backlog (at around 50 or so a day depending on whether higher education funding is in the news), then anyone can. I had a look at her inbox while she was working from home a couple of days after we got back... 2000 unread e-mails! Yikes! That's probably more than I've received in my entire 4-year "career".
