Have you tried to run vista on a Single Core HT pc with 1 Gb of memory and a 256 gfx card?

The experience sux.

I wouldn't recommend it, at all; unless they were buying a brand new PC as well.

I upgraded my HP Media Center PC which had Single Core (with no HT), 1 Gb of memory, and a 256 Graphics card. Just enough for Aero. No problems with it on my end. In fact, I've had more problems with my new Dell Quad Core than the HP.

Of course, my Dell has can run DirectX 10, so I can't complain..

does anybody seriously believes those words? the bad things I hear about vista are almost exclusively coming from people who actually tried to use it and got rid of it after months of tribulation.

No, the bad things you hear about Vista are second hand stories that have been echoed around the internet. Hating Vista brings hits to blogs and the IT crapsheets.

I know loads of people who have Vista and you couldn't pry it away from them. What do they all have in common? They don't spend their lives reading IT blogs on the inturnet ....

The results don't surprise me, because I don't think that Microsoft carried out the survey using readers of Mac Daily News and Linux Today.

Are they accurate? Pretty much I'd say from my experience.

Would I recommend Vista. If you're in the market for a new machine anyway, then yes I would. If you can keep going with XP, then that would be the best solution in my opinion; but that doesn't mean that folk who get a new machine with Vista preinstalled, aren't happy with it.

I have been running Vista for over a year and I'd highly recommend it over XP (Pro or no Pro). I also know many people who agree.

I have a for year old asus pundit wich acts as my media center. Only reason why I don't run Vista on it, is no video driver support. All other hardware worked fine, except the video driver kept blue screening.

All my other machines use Vista (laptop and desktop). I have no issues with either one.
I will have to agree that most of the complaints I hear about Vista have literally been from people who have never used it and won't even touch it.

More like 86% of people relize that Vista is better than the other OS's but about 13% of that are proud to admit it.
I am one of those that would recommend it.  I miss the look and feel of Vista when I have to work back in XP.  I don't miss a thing when I'm in Vista that I had in XP.

Just the feel of Vista makes it so much more pleasant to use, it  has a very light feel to it.

I like the feel better than that of OSX, although obviously Vista needs some improvements in ways OSX is ahead.

I sat behind a mac a couple of months ago, couldn't find anything Smiley

Had the same issue with Vista though, when I first installed it.

Maybe it's just me, or maybe these modern OS-es are just too complicated Wink

If the system has a motherboard with the Nvidia NForce chipset and/or has an Nvidia graphics card then I might recommend XP over Vista. Still, I think Nvidia's Vista chipset and video card drivers have improved recently.

I have an Nvidia motherboard (had 680i, just upgraded to a 780i and Q9450), along with an 8800GTX video card.  Vista has always run superbly on it.

In general, I don't recommend that my non-tech family and friends upgrade to Vista.  But if they had modern hardware running XP I wouldn't discourage them if they were interested in upgrading.

On the other hand, I certainly couldn't imagine anyone buying a new machine with XP... It seems like the only people suggesting that have never used a Vista PC themselves.
