Zune vs iPod - The Sequel | The Coffeehouse

The quick recap. About two years ago I got an 80 (or is it 60) GB Video iPod. It has worked for about half that time. I've sent it in twice. I am fairly soured on it. I want to replace it.

Does anyone want to offer an updated opinion of Zune versus iPod?

Some thoughts:

I don't suspect I'll really watch much video, I thought I would, but so far I have not.

I don't have much music, 80 or 60 gb is WAY overkill.

I love my Zune80. Big screen + big capacity = video bliss on the bus Smiley

My iPod Video 30G is relegated to being the in-car player, but the music on it is becoming a bit stale, as I'm getting everything via a ZunePass (unlimited downloads for $15/month)

My iPhone is, well, just a phone and not a very good at that either Sad

My girlfriend uses her green Zune8 for the gym and the iPhone for watching movies during lunch break. But I have to constantly swap them in and out due to the limited amount of memory...

If I have to recommend it, Zune80 + ZunePass is the only way to fly Smiley

My Zune 80 is nice, but I'm nowhere near having it filled. The Home AV dock works nicely hooked up to my AV receiver. Looking forward to XNA on Zune, that'll fill some of that space. I haven't explored fully, but the binary choices with repeat and shuffle are a down side. A "Repeat Song" or "Repeat One" options would be nice for some situations, using the "-" playlist is a bad work around. Playlist support through Zune software and the navigation through the different ways to select what you want to play is nicely done.

However for the one that goes around with me: Sansa E260 is nice, compact, and completely sufficient. Not to mention running RockBox on it gives me some more nice options. By far has the best shuffle for long playlists to ensure that all the songs are eventually played before it shuffles again and keeps going. Also not being as limited for types of video files it can use makes it easier to transfer files over.

I'm loving the Zune 80. I've had it since Nov. '07 with no problems whatsoever. It interfaces nicely with the Xbox 360. Wireless sync is handy.

I like my Zune 80. It's the first MP3 player I've ever owned (not counting Windows Mobile phones). I put movies and watch them while running on a treadmill at the gym. It's really nice. I cannot compare to an iPod, as I never have own one. I only can speak to how iTunes (mor appropriately the iPod helper service) have slowed Windows machines of friends.

That being said, those of us who have a Zune... Would you mind sharing your User name? Since it is a "social", it would be nice to have some fellow Niners on my friends list.

Ok, so far we've got a lot of love for the zune, especially the zune 80...anyone on the other side of the fence want to field a pitch?

I only have the zune 8 (I'm cheap). I really should have bought the 80 because it is worthless trying to watch movies on it. Sorry but I really can't lodge any major complaints. The only issue I currently have is the text for all my albums in the zune are fooked up. Not to keen on the software but for an mp3 player it is great.

I've owned an iPod 20GB. It's battery life is now < 2 seconds. It is a brick as far as I am concerned. ITunes I personally can't stand. I bought a Zune 80 and use it all the time. I like that it can handle windows media lossless. I really have no complaints about the Zune. It is great.

I love my Zune 80. It does everything I need and then some. I can't really compare it to an iPod because I have never owned one.

Zune 80 is nice, I reconmend it to everyone. Software updates and functionality and look is vastly superior to iTunes. Still, one would hope that someday Microsoft would open up and allow 3rd party programs to sync with Zune, imagine the popular support on that...

But do not expect anything from support. Microsoft's support for Xbox and Zune are the worst I've ever dealt with. Their headsets suck and can never hear me, it took no less than 10 calls to get my xbox replaced over a period of a week (the system was down or being upgraded all week apparently....). The Zune support people flat out refuse to replace my broken earbuds (came that way) and my dead pixil on my screen (well a stuck pixil stuck on green).

I love my device, I love the software, the magic of software has tuned this device wonderfully. The 2.5 update really polished this up. I just hate the suport, I hate so much. Whoever runs that division needs to be fired.

I got an iPod Touch. I can surf the Internet on it. It's better then the Zune. I also think my peni size grew since I bought it. It gets me all the ladies. Join the dark side of scantly clad women.
