... and this time Steven Spielberg helped.

Indy 4: what a waste. It's was like watching Phantom Menace all over again and feeling your childhood get dumped all over. Should've handed the whole thing over to the guys behind National Treasure 2, which was a much better Indy film even without Indy.

Mad
You are really making me feel discouraged to go watch the movie now.
I don't want to go through the same feeling that I felt when I watched the Star Wars prequels.

Really? ... That sucks...

I was hoping they would be good after reading so many positive reviews about the movie. IMDB has it rated at 8.6 which is pretty good considering how most movies seem to get around a 7.0 on average.

You really think Tomb Raider is better? That was one of the worst films (or series of films) ever made... I just won't watch any of them. They were just adverts for Siemens phones with a bunch of shooting...

I will probably still go see it.  Everyone has different opinions about movies.  Some people hate movies I have loved and other people love movies I hate.

And as I told Dan there, most people are gonna say it sucked, but I loved it. Whee!

I liked it. It was, of course, different by the previous three, but the corniness and the rambacious swashbuckling theme was all there.

Damn it shut up! I'm going to see it tomorrow afternoon!

I liked it too. But it was on par with the 3 star wars prequels for those who have unrealistic expectations. Greed, Envy, and Pride all have their cameos, by formula... what? You want to be 9, guy? You've outgrown bubblegum, haven't you, but you don't hate the flavor, now, do you? Be such as it may.

Not quite accurate. I actually thought Indy's age and the fact that the world changed in those 19 years was one of the more interesting themes of the movie.
Haven't seen it yet.

I loved the themes/objects of the previous movies and even the PC game (Fate of the Atlantis).

However the first thing I thought of this movie was, what the * is "Crystal Skull"? The name already gives you thought of some cheesy cartoony he-man etc fantasy that was way too unbelievable to begin with. I've seen a ton of documentaries about Atlantis etc but last thing I saw "Crystal Skull" in was StarGate, known for it's cheesy plots.

I'm already imagining that Indy will find this Crystal Skull, it's probably made with CGI and has some glow effect. Totally a turn off. [C]

... Now you might be tempted to ask if what my avatar represents is that much different but that's beside the point. Lucas/Spielberg in interview just few weeks ago emphasize on how important it is for the object of the movie to have some familiarity to make it believable. So far I'm not convinced and not even sure I want to be convinced by the movie. Crystall skull is as bad name as Phantom Menace. It just sounds lame/cheesy.

Hmmm, I love Star Wars and I love Indiana Jones... Looking forward to it... Maybe this weekend?

I found a few funny clip from Star Wars...

Enjoy!

Two years ago my sister-in-law gave my wife and I a couple of free cinema tickes (the ones redeemable at any of the cinemas within the chain). We still haven't used them and they expire mid-June.

[SIDE NOTE:  Never give cinema tickets to parent of young children unless you also throw in a nights baby-sitting! Otherwise, like us, the recipients might never get a chance to use them.]

We've decided that we're going to use them to see the new Indiana Jones film.  We don't really care if it's as good as the previous ones because just the concept of going out for the evening without two small children, and having a 'grown up' trip out of the house is a treat in itself. Big Smile

I went to see the new Indiana Jones last night and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it had all the Indy-elements, it was full of action (of course a lot more spectacular with all the CGI), it had the Indy-tune, ... On the other hand, I'm not very satisfied with the story. OK, the scene with the refridgerator was awesome, but the ending was just over the top. What the hell were the writers smoking when they wrote the plot? But still, Indy is like pizza: even when it's bad, it's still good.

I agree. It was quite good. How much can you squeeze out of Indy? It's an adventure movie series and yet they managed to pull in aliens and a mindbending skull. Smiley

Brings me right back to Zak McKracken and the alien mindbenders.

What do you mean, the ending was great. What wasn't so cool was the liana swinging - that was rediculous! The monkeys were funny tho. Big Smile

I think the vine-swinging and, yes, the ending were my least favorite scenes in the movie. I loved the movie, but I didn't really care for the alien plot. I liked the religious themes of the previous movies better. That said, I could've lived with the alien plot if it wasn't that explicit. The whole ending could've been a lot more toned down, in that I didn't need to see the whole place actually take off. They could've kept a bit more mystery.

The bit in the village, in the beginning, is my new favorite scene, topping the swordsman from Raiders. It was just so... bizarrely surreal.

WOOH! WOOH!
Things that came to mind (SPOILERS)

* Man, Indy was old! He should just retired!

* How did an army of Russians made it to Nevada. In the mid of the Cold War. And these aren't the Kevin Costner type Russians, but the heavily accented types.

* How did they manage to take over Area 51, one of the most heavily-guarded military base in the US.

* Indy is a colonel in the army? WTF?

* The military would never let the feds treat one of theirs like that!

* Who were the "creatures of the night" at the cemetary? And how did they learn martial arts?

* Really? Aliens taught us how to build turn soil? How to farm? Seriously?

* Why did that alien burn that lady after promising to thank her

* How could a pyramid, in the middle a jungle clearing, gone unexplored?

* How can a biological being have crystal skeleton?

* Did it make sense to bring Jar Jar Bing on for a cameo?
