The demo is on a Dell Latitude XT, that does multitouch already.

7:29 - "This is 'likely to ship within three years of general availability of Vista.'" Demo time! It does multi-touch!

Hm, well if they do ship in 09, the beta has to start soon Wink.

That touch stuff is certainly neat, but it really doesn't excite me that much because I'm out of the buying cycle, won't get another computer for a few years. I do hope it takes off though.

The external monitor is clearly a prototype...

Paolo,

as you're rethnking the interface for multi-touch, i also hope you're also rethinking the point-and-click interface, and the pen interface; and thinking about ways they can seamlessly integrate

The way 90% of the users will interact most of the time is with a mouse.

But touch is getting a lot of attention in Win7. Let me see what I can say more about it tomorrow morning Smiley

Very neat, I'd expect the performance to improve later on. It looks kinda slow and annoying still, which is understandable.

Piano playing is neat. One could imagine playing an RTS with a touch display....how sweet would that be?

Unimpressed. Without specialized hardware this is useless anyway.

Well if it does take off it will be good news to the companies who make monitor wipes!

It's the usual chicken and egg problem. What if the hardware was there and the OS support was not? This way we lay the groundwork for IHV and ISV to build new interesting apps.

Yeah, I keep punching people who try to use my XPS m1330 as it had a touch screen Smiley

Paolo,

"Quick side note, Windows 7, like other Microsoft OS’s before it, seems to have borrowed a thing or two from Mac OS X. This time it’s Apple’s Dock, which Microsoft appears to have borrowed. Multi-touch and a Dock. In Windows. Steve Jobs must be so proud." (http://d6.allthingsd.com/20080527/gates_ballmer/)

Was there a Dock in the demo? Is this something you're allowed to explain?

Well hopefully prices go down when this OS is released to the public.

I have a tablet PC too and it's very annoying when people touch it with their waxy fingers hoping something will happen.
