Wheres my head at?
I suspect the only people that ever used this were those without a colour monitor.
I first used Windows 3.1 on an Amstrad ALT386 SX, it was years before I discovered what it looked like in colour.

Quite possible. Years ago I did a text mode GUI and since I only had a monochrome monitor I chose the colours based  on the shades of gray (and in fact it wasn't gray, it was yellow, a monochrome yellow monitor) I was seeing rather than how the actual colours were supposed to look like.

It looked pretty good to me but later, when I finally got a colour monitor, I saw the horror. Something like gray text on pink background, bright green text selection and cyan "controls" Smiley .

I seem to remember that was good on orange plasma displays; like the old Amstrad laptops.

I can sympathize. Many years ago I had a programming assignment in Oracle's Developer 2000 Forms. A simple data-entry form, I think. I made it in a rather pleasant, solid green - or so it seemed on the 16-color display on my workstation. On the instructor's 256-color system, however, it turned out to be a virulent, sickly green that nearly made him jump back from his monitor.
