The point is that they are an antidote to the Apple ads.
The Apple ads do not try to sell you a Mac; they try to convince you that you are boring slow-witted dullard if you use a PC.
These ads are simply saying that is not true, by showing people who are not boring or slow-witted who use PCs.
And what makes these people more interesting than a Mac fanboy? Well for one thing, they do not define their self-worth by the OS they choose to run, which is what the Apple ads are encouraging.
They could have gone with quoting someone famous:

I still prefer the Gates/Seinfield ads, but these are not as bad as I thought they were going to be.
Though I imagine Apple will try and respond with something clever like having their PC tripping around their white sound stage wearing aqualung and carrying a plastic shark ....
