Yeah, that seems to be a placeholder for the KB article for SP2, when it arrives. There's nothing in it because there's no SP2 yet. But it's hardly a surprise that there WILL be.

How was anybody supposed to guess that from just a question mark?

And I still don't get what your question is. Probably because you didn't ask one.

Let me try to recreate the full question Dovella intended to ask in his original post:

"Vista SP2 is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?"

There. Clearer now?

Expressing typographical astonishment can be done using the wonderfully named interrobang:  ‽
No, I am not making this up.

Never mind SP2, I'm really excited abouthe interrobang!
Fantastic find, Yggdrasil!

How did we ever cope without it ‽

Wow, you learn something every day. Amazing!

My interrogative point wants to mean astonishment.

So "?" means "I am astonished to see that there will be an SP2"? Good to know.

Check out the Punctuation sidebar on the wiki page I linked to. It has some other lovely signs like the Reference mark (※), because/therefore signs (∴, ) and the sadly unused Irony Mark (؟), the use of which could spare the world millions of man-hours a day in pointless internet bickering over misunderstood comments. I especially like the alternate name for it, the Snark.

One nice thing I've noticed in that placeholder is that they're jumping straight to SP2 on Win2k8. It makes sense, since Win2k8 RTM is built on the same kernel as Vista SP1, but I was wondering if they're going to make a mess by calling the same code Vista SP2 and Win2k8 SP1. It appears they'll do the right thing and bump it straight up.

Also, for Dovella:
The Windows Lifecycle Roadmap document, last updated 4 months ago, doesn't state a date for Vista SP2 as of yet. You might want to bookmark it and check occasionally, though.

If you look at the about boxes on Win2008 you will see "SP1"

I know, but it's 'officially' at RTM/SP0 level. So either they skipped SP0 or they're skipping SP1. Either way is fine with me.

Yes, it will contain released and private hotfixes, updated drivers and maybe support for hardware that wasn't available yet when Vista was launched..

They've done this before with XP x64. That was built on top of Win2k3 SP1. When Win2k3 SP2 came out it also applied to XP x64, even though there had never been an SP1 for XP x64.
Microsoft should release service packs every 6 months...

After formatting Windows, and installing Vista SP1, there are a lot of updates to install still. It'd be nice to keep that to a minimum when I format a year from now. Though, I think I might be making the switch to Windows 7 pre betas and betas  to play around with in the near to distant future Wink.

If not a service pack, an update roll-up would be nice once in a while. Smiley
