Well, sort of.

I was automatically directed to what seems to be the test page for the new design of Microsoft.com. At the moment it just looks like a slightly altered (and unfinished) rehash of the current one, though I expect that it's still a while off being done yet.

The main navigation definitely makes it easier to find things now, but I still think they need to cut down on the amount of information that's presented in the panels below the Silverlight feature.

sorry but that just illustrates everything ive been going on about

no more corporate idiots running the site

I still don't think anyone (who does visit MS.com for a reason) cares about anything below "News".

The website is actually not THAT bad. It's probably work in progess and some flyouts have way to much information but it's nice Smiley

Not sure what you mean Jamie. That top menu bar, although not being wide enough and with too small of text and hideous dropdowns, has links to all the things you're talking about. Products and stuff for consumers, to partner links, and to corporate links. Splash pages just don't work in terms of usability so I'm not sure what your goal is.

That news bar needs to be a at least twice as high as it is now. It just disappears even with it having a black background.

hmm... the correct link for the UK homepage seems to show a slightly different version of the page (e.g. no news section)

That's not good.  Reporting this to my lead and the Homepage PM so somebody can take a look.

oh noe, this sucks. Those top menus look nice BUT... as soon as I hover my mouse over them... omfg, they puke out A TON OF LINKS. Jeez, are they trying to put EVERYTHING on the front page of the site? Horrible. Messy.

Look, no errors.
There's been a change since the last time I looked the other day, now the menu is in the center of the page.

But really, it's a weak looking design with so many contrasting elements mashed together and nothing to draw your interest, and who's going to care about the big ad in the middle of the page? Does it remind anyone else of those mainstream pay-per-click ads?

"That news bar needs to be a at least twice as high as it is now. It just disappears even with it having a black background."

Eye-tracking studies show that people ignore dark areas on light pages, the black bar was that last thing I noticed.

The current MS homepage sucks as well.
