Despite the furore around Microsoft trying to buy out Yahoo at the beginning of the year, and the dodgy tactics used by Jerry Yang to avoid the takeover bid, Google today has pulled out of its advertising deal with Yahoo and Mr Yang has said "To this day the best thing for Microsoft to do is buy Yahoo"

And the Yahoo stock is down by 40% since the last bid from Microsoft. Not the best moves that Yang made.

I really thought the government in this case does not understand our industry. They have a market definition that I think is too narrow and I think things like this tend to have unintended consequences for our entire industry.

If I were Ballmer, I would tell them to go f%^ck themselves. But in business sense the deal would seem viable. I would only pay market value though.

Yang thought the crap didnt stink on the other side, well look who is laughing now.

If this happens I think MS should spin off a new company to handle yahoo/live. IMO live has always been confusing so they should take the opportunity to rebrand all of the consumer side stuff.

I'm a big Yahoo! fan - I use it as my default search engine, my primary email address, my main messenger account, etc.

I'm beginning to become disenchanted.

My first hint was a couple years back when they added a clickthrough redirection on their search results pages which added noticeable latency. That kind of annoyed me.

Now their comics page is stuck on Monday, just as 9 Chickweed Lane is getting interesting...
