It finds lightbulbs.
The newspaper this morning reported that "Windows Life" (yes, 'life' with an 'f') is being launched today, and that it's the successor to Windows Vista.

I mean... Wow.

So it must be really easy to get a job as a tech journalist then?  How much does it pay?  I can easily rattle off nonsense in no time at all!

It was just a regular newspaper, and I doubt they have a dedicated tech journalist. They probably just told some intern to write something about the launch of Windows Livfe without actually handing him/her a press release.

Of course, the fact that it's called Windows [X] doesn't help either.

I wonder if they've added some type of message assurance to Messenger?

I grow tired of me and my contacts getting confused because random messages failed to arrive without warning or error. You'd think that messages reaching their destination in an IM client would be high priority but we wouldn't want to get in the way of implementing tons and tons of junkware for teens that want full screen animated crap.

I'd use something else but the competition cannot seem to create a good video conferencing system. Skype tries and fails. So I guess for now the best solution is video + audio though Messenger and IM chat though AIM?

ha just got through having an IM about that

"Are you getting all my IM's?  Errors have popped up and I want to make sure you're getting all my pearls of wisdom."

I also agree that messages getting to their destination should probably be the top priority of an IM client.

So Skydrive has 25GB now. Nice, but what about a Skydrive client. It's not so much fun to upload bigger files in 50Mb junks through a web interface. I would love to see a Foldershare option with Skydrive as sync partner. But I guess we have to wait for Live Mesh.

If you run a slide show on SkyDrive, the background uses the same type of color value extraction that we'll see on the Windows 7 taskbar.

I'm a little disappointed though that Microsoft doesn't seem to be interested in updating Live Favorites or creating a more advanced social bookmarking service

funny I thought the top priority was to see how sh/t ugly almost useless and inconsistant  they could make there application interfaces.. while doing little as possible to make any actual improvement to the software and features!!!!  Oh well Live Wave 3...  all aboard the supreme FAIL TRAIN... Dovella you better not miss it.

btw when will MS ever come out with an email client that doesn't have a pile of * looking and working send/recieve dialog.. aside from going into other issues..  What ever happened to actually displaying a bit effing information! For when you're sending emails specially with attachments..  like uploading speed// uploaded so far // .est time to complete ...same with receiving mail.. you know like not everyone who sends email does it within the same LAN network or with a high speed upload.

..a little disappointed? lol - I'm sure that would be some feature for MS to think about building into IE9/10 -- due out 2012 I mean 2015~heck 2020? ..if you use Maxthon you would have had that type of service built in... ooh umm 4years+ ago...weldone MS you're catching up.
It all looks like it still beta stuff when I go there.

Can anyone tell me if the new Movie Maker still has a timeline? None of the screenshots show one.

From what I've read, they removed the timeline intentionally. It was 'too complicated'.

Actually, I didn't realize SkyDrive had a folder for favorites... I guess that works, although there's a lot more that I can see done with social bookmarking and integration with search. I would also like tagging features, as well as for all of any type of file on SkyDrive.

Seriously.

I swear I have been using the same software since 1998. It never improves in a functional way. They just keep throwing in more bloat and developing useless stuff that very few people really want.

I guess it is a hard sell to say - "We're going to use the next release exclusively bug fix and bring features that users actually use up to a half decent standard."

Take for example IE 8 and the "Accelerators" crap... They can't even get the basics of the browser right like Favorites updating correctly, the ability to search favorites, etc and yet they're adding more crap like this nobody will use.

It doesn't help that they're both called Windows Live Wave 3.

I have to agree. The two main problems I have with IE right now are the fact that I have to manage my favorites on all my computers, and that I can only manage my RSS feeds on one of my PC's. This could be solved by allowing me to sync my favorites, RSS feeds and their read/unread state across any PC I use IE on. Just sign in to my browser with my Live ID or something, and pull my favorites and feed store off of some online service. It would be heaven. Instead, they're adding a feature that allows me to select a word and search for it on Maps.
Windows Live Movie Maker appears to be the most crippled piece of software ever concieved. It would appear that all you can do now is stitch videos together. Not editing whatsoever.

Also you can add one of 3 effects and decide whether or not to use the 1 transition.
