I just got a scam email, and the email address that it came from is "msl at microsoft.com."  How were they able to pull that one off?  Though I am supposed to reply to a gmail account despite this email being sent from a microsoft account...

I want my scalps!
When I was in college, we learned to send and receive e-mail (SMTP and POP3) using only telnet, typing in the commands. That was fun and pretty easy.

Human after all
Heh, we did that a couple of years ago while we were trying to trick our isp into relaying emails for us without validating our authentication.. this might sound really dodgy, but some isps in the uk will force you to register your domain addresses with them in under for you to even use them (not even using their smtp).

Smtp relay servers are quite friendly Smiley
