Only Proprietary software vendors deal in absolutes.
This is the final nail in the coffin.  Earlier the FSF filed a lawsuit against Cisco Systems for violating the GPL and LGPL licenses.  So whats this the final nail for?  Who is the culprit?  mr. PCOS, Roberto J. Dohnert  himself is a contractor for Cisco Systems and works in their Unix division.  I confirmed this.  So I would like for mr. PCOS himself to explain how as a linux distributor how he allowed his company to violate the GPL and LGPL, a group that he works in.

This is the proof that its a Microsoft sposored distro and that Mr. PCOS himself is not worthy to distribute Linux in any way shape or form.

I copied this verbatim to his forums as well.

My recommendation is this: use another distro.  gNewSense is superior in every way.

I'll do what I always do. Ask you for a link to something you've worked on, and you disappear from the thread.

so what did you do ... give us a link!
Can you stop promoting PCOS? I kept trying to find rj's distro, but I end up wasting a lot of time finding nothing. And every time you mention him, I feel like I have to try his stuff just to know what's going on. Seriously, I don't give a "insert swearing" about Cisco and a guy who may work for the company! Seriosuly, I don't care.

At least talk about Apple, WHC, or whatever that has nothing to do with your single purpose of existance.

Human after all

So what do you do in the open source community to have a 'secure reputation'? surely you don't count all these fits on channel9 as 'work'? You've said stuff like this various times and people always ask you - why not show us what you've done that gives you the perceived right to dictate?

The case is the FSF versus Cisco systems in a copyright violation court hearing becuase the Linksys models EFG120, EFG250, NAS200, SPA400, WAG300N, WAP4400N, WIP300, WMA11B, WRT54GL, WRV200, WRV54G, and WVC54GC, and in the program Quick-VPN are alleged to contain code that is copy-protected under either the GPL, LGPL or other copyright licences held by the FSF.

The case therefore is absolutely nothing to do with PCOS, nor is it a claim against any specific employee of Cisco systems, nor is it a claim that mentions (even in a cursory manner) RJ Dohnert or the Microsoft Corporation.

It finds lightbulbs.
I love how, after a bunch of stuff about a conflict between Cisco and the FSF, the "this is proof that Microsoft sponsored PCOS" line just comes out of nowhere.

Always a hilarious read. I had corona's posts set to display:none, but I removed that, because everytime I see one of his posts I know it's a guaranteed laugh.

Fired Up
I just downloaded and tried gNewSense:
- When checking for updates I already had to download 115 MB of critical updates (with recommended updates 250 MB)
- It's a crippled version of Ubuntu,
- It doesn't have drivers for my graphics card so 3d applications like Chromium don't work,
- It didn't find my UPS so no battery power settings,
- Old version of the kernel and old version of OpenOffice,
- Processor usage stays at 21% with a quadcore @ 2.66 Ghz,
- It loads Bluetooth services and drivers while I don't have Bluetooth on my pc.

With gNewSense I get the feeling that the only program worth using on it is OpenOffice.org.

Don't know what your talking about, I downloaded it and installed it under VMWare on my Mac, worked first time out the box even picked up the iSight.

I'm thinking about using it as my main OS now.

you are promoting PC/OS with each post you post about it. It's getting higher and higher rankings in Google and also people, who have never heard about it know about it now. If someone reads the replies to your posts they probably get interested in trying out PC/OS. Actually, since you always mention it, I'm shortly before trying to see what I'm missing there...

Yeah probably...

corona: do you have any links to stuff that you contributed to OSS projects - or perhaps links to papers that you wrote?

I couldn't resist and reply again to coroner but to prove that you are promoting PCOS much more than your gNewSenstology or however this distro is called, just count the number of times you use the word "PCOS" versus "gNew...".

A FSF insider revealed me that some crazy MS employees set all of his papers on fire. Those *s!

This envy of RJ's work is blatantly obvious. RJ's distro popularity is rising at unmatched speeds, its distrowatch rank is already almost 2x times higher than gNewSense and those idle threats and made up stories can't even hope to barely scratch all the success RJ's honesty and hard work managed to gain. You're just embarassing yourself, corona: the little attention you're craving for is all ending on RJ's distro, not you.

what ?

so as a contactor you belive that he has some uber-super powers to:

1) know that the company has violated GPL etc...  ( they are so small he can just walk in and see everything at a glance ?)
2) he could stop it ?  ( he is so important that he can call a board metting, fire the CEO, or make other chnages )

wow.... so you think this guy is that awesome ???

or you are totaly 100% out of touch with the real world, the size of CISCO, the scope of work for one contractor and about 1,001 other things....

dude get help, find a mental health center -- or are you already in a rubber room ??

Not that I actually care about this thread's argument, but on the FSF vs. Cisco thing... given what Cisco already provide, I have to wonder how much this is really a case of the FSF being pedantic, just to justify their existance... I mean, apart from the odd geek or two, how many people are actually going to want to modify the source code on their linksys router ? I'm sure there are days when Cisco regret ever buying Linksys and playing the consumer-market game.

I guess Microsoft is being pedantic when they go after pirates too. FSF like Microsoft has a large amount of work under copyright and these copyrights have a license. If you this don't agree to follow this license and you still use the product you are committing copyright infringement.
