Hi,
Is it possible in, Windows 7, to add a network share as a library location?
I have my music files stored on my network. When i try to add the share
\\ServerName\Share as a libray location i get an error ”This folder cannot be included because it is on a share that is not indexed.” The help link in the error message does not provide usefull information regarding this.
Any ideas?
/tony

I believe the share needs to be on a machine that has Windows Desktop Search installed on it. Certainly it works with my music folder on my Windows Home Server.

Thanks! I will try to install Windows Search 4.0 on the server.AndyC said:I believe the share needs to be on a machine that has Windows Desktop Search installed on it. Certainly it works with my music folder on my Windows Home Server. -

Correct, the network location needs to be indexed.

Not so fast .... I can't do that because I connect to NAS storage unit, with proprietary software (Matrox). What are my options then ?PaoloM said:

Thats interesting when I tried this with one of the server shares on my home server I got that same message (the network location needs to be indexed).AndyC said:I believe the share needs to be on a machine that has Windows Desktop Search installed on it. Is a share on home server automatically indexed? (I don't recall seeing a flag anywhere?) -
I haven't the faintest idea. I would have assumed so. If not, remoting into the Server desktop should allow you to configure indexing, shouldn't it? I know that I didn't have to to anything specific, but then I was using the default music share and I also have music sharing turned on which might well do some magic itself.Ian2 said:

Home server has an older version of WHS. I don't think the update is automatic; so you need to remote desktop in and install it by handIan2 said:

Thanks Blowdart. I knew some random guy from Channel 9 would have the answer (you see I've never really forgiven you for that have I?)blowdart said:

Not many, that is a scenario that we are not supporting in Windows 7 beta.Zeus said:

Ok, I installed WS 4.0 on my Windows XP Pro "server" and it reports indexing has completed, but when I try to add network locations to libraries in 7, I still get the error about them needing to be indexed. Is there something I'm missing here? Firewall/service/startup settings? Voodoo?fabian said:

Uhh nevermind. I just tried it again (for the 100th time) and it spontaneously worked. Still, any ideas as to what may have been the issue?agentmoose said:

Any chance for a change of heart in before it's released ?PaoloM said:
