I'd like to know if the screens of these netbooks are workable enough if you go beyond a 10 minute browse and e-mail.
the Acer one is pretty good, however Dell Mini 9's display for example is very bad

My Dell Mini 12 (12.1" diagonal at 1280x800) is about the smallest I think I'd be comfortable with for extended use.  Might could go a little smaller, but I can't imagine using something like the Sony Vaio P that's even smaller and higher resolution.

Don't know how it compares in dot pitch, but I noticed dell have an option for 1920x1200 on some of their 15" laptops. I bet that's hard to read! A colleague uses a 17" laptop at that resolution as his desktop at work and I have to squint to read that when he's showing me something.  Yes, I should probably get my eyes tested Smiley

With such high resolutions you have to make the dpi a lot bigger.

Not gonna happen for a while, too many programs don't do high-dpi, and people with good eyesight still prefer larger workspace to one that's more readable. I run my 120dpi laptop in 96dpi mode, and I am tempted at times to run my 190dpi PDA in 96dpi mode too, just to be able to read websites in Pocket IE which has awful page reshaping algorithms.

I have an Aspire One, but not with Win7 yet. (still on Xp Home) Not ready to drink that kool-aid..maybe by summer.
It is my favorite device by far.
My only complaint is the keyboard, but I'm used to it now. How's the keyboard usage on the Sony?

A friend of mine has a 15" Dell notebook at 1920x1200...  it is pretty unreadable.

He's got font sizes cranked up in XP, but XP doesn't handle high-DPI well at all.  It's not a particularly fun machine to use (althoug the screen is nice and pretty and sharp).
