If you watch the video that I called out in the original post, it seems that the Windows team have realised that the complete divorce from .NET that that they did in Vista hasn't worked and they seem to be making moves to correct it this time around. Especially towards the end of the video, there are references made to extensions that are coming in .NET 4.0 that will allow managed developers to target the new shell features right out the gate. Not complete alignment I know, but a lot better than Vista
