I know 24 hours have yet to pass since the first session, but where will the session videos be? Been looking round the visitmix.com website and now seems to jump out at me?

I put both Raymond's and Maddus Mattus questions in. This was a neat experience for us, I likened it to a haunted house at an amusement park. Kind of scary, but fun too!

We will do something like this again I think, we really want to do more things to bring the home audience more into conversations that happen at the physical event.

Mac OS X's Cocoa framework has Distributed Objects.

I can not answer with great detail but yes.
the Mac has a bunch of stuff that does code / dll shared use of framework bits and going back to the "classic" mac os before osx
they had quick time and quickdraw.

they also have a bunch of other newer plumbing for building apps and using media.

also on a mac a file has a header that keeps info on what kind of file it is
it can use that info to run the app that created that file or find a "compatable" app for that kind of file.
I have not messed with the current stuff but it used to be a 4 byte / 32 bit key
that kept them from having to use .123 filenames for stuff.

there are a number of cool things they did when they created the Mac.

little bit off topic: Anyone know does apple/osX have something similar to COM/OLE? Considering the saying "Those who don't understand COM are condemned to reinvent it, poorly." I'm intrigued what kind of solution they use to achieve similar tasks. How are media codecs handled, does OS X have anything similar to DirectShow/MF?

Not sure if Jeff or the Gu can answer this, but: is there any indication of future Windows versions finally treating .NET as a first-class citizen? Like Joe Nalewabau said here, a lot of people made the transition to managed code and are now completely lost if they have to manage something in C/C++, even when coming from a C/C++ background. Yet Windows still treats .NET as C++ native code's idiotic little brother. When a new version of Windows comes out, they don't provide managed controls/API's. People just have to figure it out themselves or wait for somebody to make a managed wrapper. Managed shell extensions aren't possible. Creating an add-on in IE is needlessly complex, because you can't simply create an add-on in managed code.

So when will .NET finally be able to do everything the big boys can? When can we finally drop COM, or at least put .NET on the same level?

Yesterday and the day before, I went to the TechDays in Belgium. Just like last year, they filmed all the sessions and the attendants will later receive a DVD. I really enjoyed some of the awesome sessions and think it would be a good idea to put these session videos on Channel 9, like you guys did for PDC, so everyone can watch them, comment on them and learn new stuff.

I was particularly impressed by the sessions about Pex and CHESS and the one about C# 4 (which also gave us a preview and a demo of what's coming in C# 5).

I thought the PDC broadcasting was very very good, and it's nice to know that some of us in far away places can see the keynotes and announcements as they more or less happen.

Not quite sure what I'd ask "TheGu" or "Atters", but I will get back to this thread once I have thought of something.
