VS2008 Std & Silverlight 2 Toolkit broken? | The Coffeehouse

When I try anbd install the Silverlight Toolkit I am getting the following message:

Installation Requirements:

Build 9.0.30729.XX of Visual Studio 2008 SP1 or Visual Web Developer 2008 SP1 must be installed before installation can continue. See <A HREF="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=122094">http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=122094</A> for download information.

The version of VS2008 standard (that was given to me at the Heroes lauch in the UK) is: Build 9.0.21022.8 RTM

Does anyone know if this is by design / whether there is a workaround so that this version of VS2008 can be used?

Bugger, I've inow nstalled the demo of the pro edition in an effort to get round this issue but it has (picked up?) the same version number!

OK, Next thing I will try is to remove standard edition unless anyone has any better ideas?

Sorry Blowdart, didn't see you there. I installed Sp1 but this didn't update the underlying version string that the Silverlight tools install is obviously checking.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the SP1 install went bad, rather than a Silverlight SDK problem. I'd uninstall everything I'm afraid and start afresh

I'm uninstalling now and won't install the 'Heroes' version as I think it is the RTM build version of the VS2008 standard edition that is causing the problem.

Have uninstalled the standard version, leaving the Pro (eval) version in place, but still have the same issue - looks like the evaluation versions of VS are also the RTM build! (I downloaded this eval last week so I know it is current)

Next thing to try (after uninstall of the VS2008 Pro Eval) is an install of SQL 2008 - I believe it has the same base IDE (and the copy I have here isn't an eval).

My hope is that when I next install VS2008 standard edition it will recognise that the base IDE is already in place - Fingers crossed.

Strangely enough I had sp1 on top of the VS2008 Standard build withiout any issues - so SP1 is happy to install over the "Heroes" VS2008 but the Silverlight toolkit just wasn't happy with the Build number (which didn't change with the service pack).

I;m still installing SQL 2008 now - it takes an age.

OK, So far so good, I've just put the old "Heroes" VS2008 over the top of SQL 2008 and the IDE is reporting the later build number!

So SP1 next followed by the toolkit.

Bit of a waste of time but at least i cought up on a few Channel 9 videos while I was waiting!
