Monkey see, monkey do, monkey will destroy you!

Well, while we have a IE8 address bar gripe thread dredged up, I have a complaint about the address list entry deletion feature.

The delete button is not visible until you mouse over it. The button's location is right where I naturally move the cursor after clicking the down arrow to show the list. And since my eyes are on the left side of the list to read the urls, this has resulted in me accidentally deleting an entry I knew was there instead of navigating to it on several occasions.

I'd suggest moving the delete button to the left side in a future version to avoid this.

I use Chrome, which, come to mention it, doesn't even appear to have an address bar dropdown at all ... which I never noticed for the months I've been using it.  Guess it can't be too important to me then  Tongue Out

Chrome has an address bar dropdown. Its first option is to use your default search provider to do a Web search. Then it adds entries from your Favorites, then auto-suggest items from search, and the final item is to view a page with matching entries from your History.

It has a popup below the address bar that comes up when you type something, but there's no dropdown in the sense of a chevron you can click without typing anything to get default suggestions.

Anyway, though it doesn't bother me because I don't use the dropdown, I think I agree with the topic starter that there's no point of having History and Favorites in a non-contextual dropdown when it's easy to just go to your History/Favorites if you want those.  Still much prefer IE8 over 7 or 6 (or Firefox even).
