I have wondered this for a while, why is the windows media player team so quiet? They do not seem to have a team blog (or if they have one its well hidden) they always have long drought times between releases, and generally arent visible as to thier plans.

Any chance C9 could try to get an interview or pry some info out of the MP team?

I hope so, there's supposedly a new version in Windows 7.

There's a small list of improvements in Windows Media Player 12 which is in the Windows 7 RC today. Most of the media (video/audio) improvements have actually been system-wide, such as improved codecs support etc., which benefits any DirectShow-based media players and not just WMP.

Wonder if those directshow based codecs extend to 64bit.

Are you sure the new codecs are for DirectShow? I was under the impression that they're MF codecs only.

They're DMO Codecs. The can run in both 32bit and native x64 mode. I hate them, they have set their merit at PREFERRED + 1 and that can't be changed for most of them. They can be used in DirectShow environments to maintain compatibility with other (older) media players.

All I know is when I install codec pack, my WPF app using Media Element works also. Smiley
