On a scale of 1 to 10, people are stupid.

What a disappointment.  I've been using this package for at least a decade, and now they've decided to quit releasing it.  The reasoning is that there are 'other, web-based solutions' out there, but those solutions don't have the consistency of MSFT behind them.

Bad Microsoft.

I'll miss Money.

You could still use Microsoft Excel. That is pretty consistent? Tongue Out

What is it MS Money does anyway? Tax stuff or just general budgets?

My bank doesn't allow that. But then again I've never needed it. Online banking statements are fine.

Why don't you use Quicken or MoneyDance?

MS dropped the UK version of Money quite some time ago, and since then I've been toying with moving to Wesabe. Just can't seem to bring myself to entering my personal bank details onto the site though.

Honestly, I think Microsoft needs to clean up its product line. They have too many products small and bi(n)g ones - sorry for the bad joke - and they are scattered in too many market segments. I usually like less products that better define the brand and that are well supported. Regarding Money, I think you can do 80% of it with an Exchel chart and if you have more advanced needs, there are many alternatives on the market.

The pioneers would be appalled!

I use Money all of the time as well.  One of the main features I loved about it was to do trend analsys on my spending.  That way I could realistically predict how much money I would have 6 months down the line.  It is one thing to know what bills you have to pay but it is something else entirely to know what little things are going to nickel and dime you to death (Sorry for the US currency reference Tongue Out ).

I am not sure what other "online" alternative they are speaking about, but the only other popular product that I know of is Quicken.  My online banking doesn't do anything close to what Money did.  Very sad about this announcement.

From the Money site:

Microsoft said:
With banks, brokerage firms and Web sites now providing a range of options for managing personal finances, the consumer need for Microsoft Money Plus has changed. After suspending annual updates of Money Plus in 2008, Microsoft is announcing today that we will no longer offer Microsoft Money Plus for purchase after June 30, 2009.

Yep, hardly surprising, but they don't get it. The reason folk used money was because it could track all their finances in one place. Gives them an overall picture without having to chaise around websites picking up graphs and numbers.
