It finds lightbulbs.

What's left to announce on the 13th if they already announced that they're going to announce RTM on the 13th?

What the final build number will be?

You know you just can't wait to learn the special 4 digits are/will be Wink

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...

Since MS is fond of round numbers, I'm going to guess 7200.

I'm your creativity creator™ :)

I'm personally betting for 7300, 7400 or more likely 7500.

Confiirmed by some blog, seems like solid information to me...

Trust me, I'm from the Internets

7300 will be the final build number.  I know because i just made it up.

Yippeee! Now I can get ready to buy Windows 7 and then download a third party sidebar app because they removed the built-in one for no reason.

??? I have a sidebar in Win7 RC1.

oic. Yeah, it is not really a side bar that reserve the space.

It's already been announced that 7 will hit GA on October 22nd... so part of that is out, granted that still leaves open the Q of when OEM's & partners will have access, not to mention when the build will hit MSDN/TechNet & the various torrent sites (oh what I'd like to do to the leakers).

They already announced the RTM by announcing that they'll announce it on the 13th. And we already know the public release date.

I'm looking forward to Windows 7, but I'm also bawling because I'll never get the release version  Crying

My laptop (affectionately called Skuld) has Windows Vista Ultimate on it and I can't stand to use it anymore, I just wish I bought it this year instead of last March, that way I could have gotten a free Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade voucher.

My desktop (called Yggdrasil) has Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and frankly, I'm getting quite sick of it. I hope to upgrade my nearly five year old desktop to Windows 7 Professional along with quite a bit of the hardware inside.

And if you are wondering, yes I do have laptops named Belldandy and Urd. Wink

What really makes me upset though is that the university I'm heading to absolutely requires either the Enterprise or Ultimate editions of Windows.

So, I hope that some contests show up in the next few weeks that I can enter to win a copy, but I'm not holding my breath. There were a couple on Ars Technica, but they passed and meh...

RTM on 7/13, so why not build 7713?

why 77xx? That's not logic... The beta was 7000 the RC is 7100. Why would the RTM be 77xx?

Was there ever logic in Microsoft build numbers?

then buy the OS thru the Univ.  academic programs from MSFT should make a copy of WIndwos like $25 bucks US or your local equiv.

check with the local MSFT office in your area about the academic programs.

That's not totally right.  The build numbers increment by either 1 or .1 depending on where the build is in the release cycle.  And when a build is forked, it gets a new set of numbers - so RC was 7100 but the RTM builds started at 7120 (or something like that).  There was also  a time in Vista where the build #s jumped by 20 at a time....  Personally I agree with Bas Smiley

Depends on your University, but they may offer MSDNAA access for students which gives you access to nearly all MS software for free. Failing that, you can always use Dreamspark to get a copy of Windows for free as well.

Microsoft is very, very good to students.

Yeah, I get the Ultimate version for $30 at my college. Smiley Of course I'm still going to preorder for the home computers.

Really? Are you absolutely sure? Because that sounds like a bizarre requirement, given that you couldn't purchase Enterprise on your own. I could understand that being the only platforms they support internally, but unless they are supplying the OS it seems unlikely that it would be a requirement for your own computer.
