I heard today on public radio that there will be interactive game shows hosted on xbox live. Real prizes, etc.

What do you know about this?

The first and only IIRC is 1 vs 100 Live which is what you describe... interactive and involves real prizes.

I got to participate in the early betas and rather enjoyed it, though I'm told it's even more fun when you have people sitting next to you playing as well (up to 4 people per console can play against hundreds online in a single game).

It finds lightbulbs.

Apparently it's just gone live (or will do so next week) in the UK. I hope it'll come out here too, I'm kind of interested in it, although apparently there's limited room for players, so the chances of actually getting in a game seem slim, and even then you only have a slim chance of actually being the One, which is apparently based on how often and how well you play when you do get in as one of the 100, which probably means that chances of becoming the One are virtually zero.

It’s a wee bit more complicated than that as there are actually 3 roles you can play in... the one (1), the mob (100), and the crowd (everyone else)... and you can only win prizes if you are in one of the first two groups, though all still get to answer questions in much the same way... and that just for OvO live... there’s also extended play where there is no one and everyone thinks themselves in the mob and you spend 30 min going through questions, ultimately competing against the clock (but also the other players).

Selection for the one and the mob is actually based primarily on extended play results, so the better you do there, the better chance you have of being in one of the more notable positions.

I guess I’ve never paid attention to the push for interactive tv other than VOD... however it’s a fairly good experience IMO.

During live games it is (partially) hosted by an actual person who is paying attention, reacts and uses the names of those who do well… while I’ve not had a chance to play in a while, during the beta there was a significant amount of back and forth where on a few occasions they’d ring a previous One and talk to them for a min or two (on the air), as well as read shout-outs that were sent to them.

It is a very different experience though than the traditional gaming experience we’ve come to know thus far playing something like Halo 3 (aside from the lack of 12 year olds screaming in your ears)... rather than just be you vs everyone else, or those in the house (mostly) playing against each other but with the inclusion of a few other people online for background targets... you do feel a lot more involved with OvO than you do other games IMO, you really feel like you are part of it rather than just watching a game show... and this being said by a guy who hasn’t watched a game show (other than Junkyard Wars (if you can call it that)) in over a decade.
