Chris came to NYC Tuesday evening and I videoed his talk and you can see it for free.

My name is Dave Oliver. I'm a Technical Architect.

No real answer again from Chris but his books are great on observations, conclusions and summarisations.

'Free' is actually easy to understand.

It is any number of these tenets at the same time, a weapon, a tool or a vehicle ... but it is ***nothing else***.

The mistake is when we start to worship 'Free' as this shows we don't understand what is really going on; the larger model in play.

So how do you make money from 'Free' ?

Easy! Work out your business money, then work out which part of it will be 'Free' using the tenets.

An example: Make some really - REALLY good maps of Yellowstone Park, water proof, wipe clean, easy fold, showing how wonderful the place is, it got to be better than the other maps, or at least 'good enough' in comparison to the ones you have to pay for ... then just give them away.

The map show all these wonderful things to see and do ... and shows how big Yellowstone is and how far apart all these things are and you how can't see all of the attractions under your own steam because what is the best route? Geez, you'll need a guide!

... and guess what? Your business sells Guided Tours of Yellowstone ... and you've get 25% off if you turn up with the map.

Hook - Line and Sinker !

I dont think this guy is right. he sais google is free? You tube is free? "it costs nothing" he sais. Oh boy. I would love people to read his book on physics.

I am sure the free is just like his video, with ads popping out at button with tiny X button, just like youtube. Well, my software is way better, it is AD Free and it is Free, as 100% Free. Not like his video with ad craps.

"Physics is Free!"

are you sure about that? I laughed when Chris Anderson said gravity is free. The truth is, we dont know at what cost we have gravity.  In physics there is always a give and take, a trade off between force and energy.  Of course we dont always pay money for these things but there is always a pay out.  Im waiting for the day we get our energy for "free".

but what is going to be the real cost of that energy? Im not just talking money. we may be talking apples and oranges here. When i think of free, i think about the broad out come of a situation not just monatary gain or lost. Smiley
