Wow! To fix the iPhone texting bug you need to download a 297.9 MB package. Seems like Apple has nothing in place to do hotfixes on their software... Perplexed

Just to recap. This is an isolated error that they fixed by adding more error handling.

Superior software... yeah. I would hope Apple would start the copy machines once and implement at least something that allows to push down smaller updates.

And once again. It's storing it in the roaming profile. Excellent Tongue Out

Well, it beats WinMo which didn't really have any updates at all until recently.

Dovella would say that is because Windows Mobile is perfect. Big Smile

Then he would be wrong,

A lot of people seem to be complaining about the size of the download, but I really don't see what the problem is.

I imagine that downloading the whole OS is a lot less likely to brick the phone than if they try to patch it.

And is a 300mb download such a big deal anyway? How many iPhone users are still on dial-up?

But why bother if it makes no difference to any of their users? To be honest, if I had an iPhone and I was given the choice, I'd rather install the whole thing from scratch rather than just replacing certain files.

Would I do that for a desktop OS? Probably not because it would be an all day job. For a phone, about three minutes.

You mean like Windows Mobile? To update the OS in Windows mobile it's flash the ROM time.

That is, if you ever get an update at all.

Well one of the major drawbacks is the Windows Mobile update process. It's not there. Manufacturers of phones issue ROM updates if you have bought the phone from them directly. If your operator has customised the ROM then you have to wait for the Operator.

One benefit of apple not allowing customisation is they can push the update out to everyone.

I've never had an update for this Windows Mobile phone. Despite there being a lot of bugs in the custom ROM. My last phone had all of one update.

Heck one reason I won't upgrade is I don't trust my operator to provide a WM6.5 upgrade. If I'm going to get a new phone that's WM based I'm going to buy it directly. Or rather I would, except they're all more than an iPhone that way.

Wm 6.5 is  60 MB. all OS  Wink

How is the size of the core operating system dependant on your mobile? That makes no sense, as the OS size is exactly the same regardless of who makes it.

And if it were true how come the vast majority of WM phones these days have 256Mb ROMs? What do they fill that space with? Made up statistics?

(Remember driver modem, Camera etc.)

Who cares? The iPhone is very well done. Windows Mobile phones have a while yet.

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...

That makes no sense, as the OS size is exactly the same regardless of who makes it.

Apparently not. There is a not so official WM6.5 rom for the Axim X51v, and the guy who made it talked a lot about all the work he had to do to get the OS to fit in th 30MB of ROM space that the Axim has for the OS (sure, it has 256MB of flash memory too, but that can't be used for the OS). He did apparently manage it. No idea how though, I don't know how this custom ROM building business works.

You made the claim. You need to prove it.

You have a history of lying, I guess this is just another one.
