I've now got an xbox and i want to buy some microsoft points, only problem is the credit card form has United States instead of Australia. Anyone know how to change the country on the Microsoft billing site?
https://billing.microsoft.com
The workaround is to move to the US.
The Help has a link to https://selfcare.sympatico.ca/, which is a broken site. Not sure how you're supposed to get someone to give you a hand...
Yea pretty much. I've had friends working for MS who moved over and have had to change the account they use with XBox live and any other billing service because once it's setup you can't change the country
But if he just wants to buy points, can't find a store that sells the points cards, or are they not available in Australia?
But going to a shop would involve leaving the basement ....

Go to https://account.live.com/EditProf.aspx?mkt=en-us&rp=SummaryPage and change the country under home location. This controls ads in Messenger, language for various LiveID based sites and should also control the billing country. It's worth a try.
Damn, I figured I might just be missing the proper way to change the location. Guess i'll just have to go buy the points cards as Harlequin said.
@Herbie, don't live in a basement but thanks for playing
You don't live in a basement? Is that allowed? My wife says it not allowed if you can program a computer, so that's why I have to stay down here. I hear them upstairs sometimes, talking and laughing ...
eeek lets keep my basement-less living just between us, I'd hate for the programming gods to find out hahaha
No it doesn't. I remember incurring in a similar problem about 5 years ago when I moved back from the States to a country in the EU. I was told on the phone it was not possible to change billing country, but I think that things changed now. I know that on eBay people ship Microsoft points to other countries as the ones you buy in a store might not work in another country.
It's not possible. I had the same problem when moving to the US from a country in the EU... Joke aside: it's not possible. I ended up with creating a new profile for my xbox.
Can i use the same passport account? also do i have to buy a new gold subscription or can i move it over?
Well with the new ID I created after moving back FROM the US, I now have a French and an Italian billing account (each of which pays for a different service, but they are not xbox related). I am very confused.
An online petition has been set up that will be sent to Major Nelson, regarding the billing system's limitation of not allowing users to change their billing country. Please read and sign it at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/xboxbilling/index.html
Why pick on Major Nelson? This is not an xbox issue, it's a Live ID/Passport issue - they do the billing. it also affects hotmail, Zune and everything else that bills through your Live ID.
