so now that chrome has 20 ugly themes... and firefox has 20 thousand (ugly themes) ... and both browsers are trying to rid the world of rectangular - unchangeable toolbars...  what is IE doing in this regard?

...not that i havent brought this up before ...but... well?

Well, IE (up to and including) version 6 was "skinnable" if you mean how the Rebar control could have a bitmap background, and the button images can be changed with your favourite reshacking tool.

IE8's tabs are procedurally drawn (unlike IE7's which were normal bitmap resources) which means they aren't skinnable anymore. I also don't think its rebars support bitmap backgrounds either.

But then again, I'd prefer it if IE were a simple standard-issue browser. If they added skinning support it'd make things hellish for helpdesk people having to deal with idiot user's sense of what makes a good skin.

Why not just use Firefox in the first place?

Actually, you can just hit F11, then, move your mouse to the top of the screen to have the addressbar fade in and right-click on an empty area in either the favorites or tab bar. Here in the now opened context menu, click on Status Bar, to hide it. Now click on an empty area on the website you're currently viewing and the only thing you're going to be bothered with are the scrollbars on the right, if the website exceeds your screen height.
