This will be the sixth time we have destroyed it and we have become exceedingly efficient at it

I see a lot of threads that are getting pretty mean around here.

Respect your fellow niner even if you think he's wrong.

Bans will follow.

Thanks for the reminder, Sampy. I've temp-banned somebody who deserves it...

I think we've gotten better over the years in dealing with trolls. We used to just lash out at them but now we're much calmer, pointing out the issues and the flaws in their logic to the point where it's the trolls that are the ones that go stupid, like may19th2031 or whatever his name is just did with that post he made LOL'ing at a serial killer spree. We stay calm, the tolls start to show their ineptness. We're getting much better I think...especially since we don't have masters like Roy around to handle them anymore... =)

give me admin ban rights, I feel I have a strong sense of justice Big Smile

Better not. Right now you may not have power and judge very well, but once you have more power than you need, you will drown and get drunk in it for sure.

Don't make me bring Serious Cat into this thread.

Ironic, w3bbo has a thread below this stating "People are Nice".

Yep. Temp banning is pretty much the new yellow card (well, second yellow card in this case). One more and it's a permanent ban.

BTW, can you remove the "Cancel" button from the Reply form? I just accidentally lost a witty reply that I can't recover. The Cancel button is of no real utility, at least replace it with a "Hide" button so if I do click it by accident I won't have lost anything.

Can't remember if you use Firefox or not but, if you do, this add-on can help: Lazarus Form Recovery.

(I've checked and it works with the C9 WYSIWYG editor.)

It saves every form you fill in for a little while, optionally in an encrypted database. Quite handy for accidental clicks or server timeouts.

Why is the caption missing??

Be warned ... going a bit off topic here ...

I totally agree here ... the cancel button should not be there, at least not in that form. The main action button (ADD) should be different from the CANCEL button, different color or something. As it is now, they are the same, and users can easily make the mistake of clicking CANCEL instead of ADD.

You could for instance make the add button stand out a little more with the C9 yellow color, or change the cancel action to a regular link, not this button feel it is now ...

So, if this message appears in this thread, I was smart enough to click ADD instead of CANCEL .... others might not be so lucky

OT: I've been bitten by this as well but the solution is probably not to remove it. Draft texts might be better, as when you use Wordpress and your draft text is transparently saved to the server and you can type on with impunity. On the other hand, this problem is so common that the browser should support the scenario - and luckily for Firefox users, it appears there is a solution by extension.

Welcome Change

We used to have Add and Cancel (well Post and Cancel) on different ends of the bottom bar. Would that help?

I don't think it's a good idea to seperate the action links, just make the button most users are looking for stand out a bit more. See example below.

Or you could just put the button users are looking for on the right side, which is at the edge of the text box, instead of on the left side.

That is a huge discussion amongst UI experts. In what order to put ok/cancel buttons.

Myself, I always have them in the order cancel/ok, because I like the main action button to be on the far right. But we westerners, we read from left to right, so maby the OK button should be on the left. The arguments for and against are endless, but the main point is to be consistent, always have them in the same order, and as a bonus, try to differentiate between the two.
