I remember someone said... the difference between a PC and a Console is what you sit on... haha! I like to game on a couch...

The 360 has had several hardware refreshes, most of it internally to compensate for the overheating problem. The best reason to buy a PS3 is for blu-ray. Mine is currently serving as a dust catcher unless I get a blu-ray movie, or have a hankering to play old PS/ps2 games. I was lucky to catch mine before they ripped out the backwards compatibility.

My 360's on the other hand are kept in good use as DVD players/Netflix Streamers/Game Players, and of course extenders to watch TV through.

I like the fact that they're actually using physical buttons again, and not those weird touchy things. It's weird though that they keep dropping features from the PS3. First backwards compatibility, now the Linux thing...

The first PS3s had hardware backwards compatibility, later on some had a less compatible software version. I think they've now dropped it entirely, but I could be wrong.

You are correct, the slim also drops the ability to install a linux OS.. guess that was important for only those doing dodgy things..

I don't really see why the slim is exciting, at first I thought cool a slim ps3.. but it isn't that slim, and its still a ps3.. with no games..

So far mine gets used for bluray movies mostly, with the rare game releasing unqiuely on it (anything cross platform, the ps3 is the WORST platform to pick).

Unfortunately nowadays the games seems to be made and designed for the consoles . I must agree that PS3+FIFA has been pretty fun with my friends but all FPS and RTS games has been pure pain.

I afraid that PC will die as a gaming platform but I hope I'm wrong. It would be great to see more simulators and adventure games on PC like in 80's and 90's.

PS3 Slim looks pretty good.

Damn ... I was thinking of getting my 7 year old a PS3 Slim for christmas ... but I will definately reconsider if it can't play PS2 games

I always had the impression the PlayStation consoles are targeting the 11+ segment, that the Wii would be better for younger children (it's cheaper too).

That said, I hope he still takes time to go play outside Wink

hehe ... he plays a lot outside, especially during the summer. It's a bit harder during the winter when the weather is shitty for 6 months.

I would consider a Wii if he didn't have so many PS2 games he likes to play ... then I would have to get him all new games to play. Plus the space around the TV he has his PS2 is not that much ...

People have been saying that the PC gaming world is dead for over 10 years now. Sure, it's not what it once was, but for RTS and FPS games it cannot be beat. I hope that Lucasarts decision to re-release the Monkey Island games and (hopefully) TIE Fighter will lead to a resurgence in PC gaming as the current gaming generation realizes how great PC games can be.

I want one of those £100 yokes with throttle control column. Unfortunately with Flight Sim going out of businss (DAMN YOU MICROSOFT) it is harder to justify. Sad

I think Nintendo is pretty happy with their gross margin, considering their two biggest companies seem to constantly be in the red.

If you look at the only thing that really matters from a business perspective, both the Xbox and PS3 are monumental failures. Unlike Microsoft, Nintendo can't keep their gaming division afloat with profits from Windows and Office.

This Nintendo which is a fraction of the size of their competitors went against companies with BILLIONS of dollars in dispensable income. They made a console that is currently dominating the gaming industry. And they actually pull a profit. The Wii is floating all by itself. And not just floating, but making an high amount of profit for the company. When Sony and Microsoft still can't figure that one out. That is commendable.
