From a tweet by @HumanCompiler, http://codeplex.org, an Open Source Foundation with a mission "to enable the exchange of code and understanding among software companies and open source communities". I know Microsoft has gotten a lot of flack over their stance on Open Source in the past, but it truly does look like they're getting into the game in a big way now. I see this as a very good thing, and it will be interesting to watch what comes out of this.

BTW, cue Ubuntu's rants on this topic.

Mission statement is very vague. "Exchange of code and understanding?"  Are they going to give hugs to FOSS advocates?

Not sure how this fits into the overall open source picture. It looks like Microsoft (or at least elements of it) want to get involved in open source but they aren't sure how.

Well this bit wasn't vague at all.

We wanted a foundation that addresses a full spectrum of software projects, and does so with the licensing and intellectual property needs of commercial software companies in mind.

Could make things a bit tricky...

I notice that the Mono chap is on board though
