I want my scalps!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a ribbon in that screen-shot.

Ewww

It was bad in office but at least had a point, it was worse in Paint and Word where it had NO point. This is the worst idea ever. I'll use Internet Explorer.

:O - Me too - That is not the ribbon. Wonder what they're smoking.

Maybe the press is now referring to any row of buttons as a "ribbon" now as if rows of buttons never existed before MS Office 2007.

It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

There's no ribbon there.  The UI is more akin to Chrome or Safari than anything else.

I'm surprised at how pretty much all the other browser vendors have picked up the "Page | Tools" menu introduced by IE7. I was initially skeptical but Apple's Safari, Google's Chrome, and now Firefox have all started it, leaving Opera as the only other holdout.

The email address in the screenshot is just begging to be spammed.

EDIT: What the hell is the "Me" button on the titlebar supposed to be?

You don't do the UI redesign any justice with a blurry pixelated photo of a corner.

It's a profile selector, for something similar to Weave that might eventually be built in.

Also, this has been around for awhile.

Yet people say Microsoft steals ideas from everyone else.

Anyone with sense knows that everyone steals ideas from everyone else.

And that's the way it should be, at least as far as UI is concerned.  Both because (if they're copying good ideas) it advances the state of the industry and it improves consistency between different applications.

No point in Word? Are you kidding me, it had all the point in Word

It finds lightbulbs.

What's  that hat/half rest icon next to the new tab thing?

There are people who 'get' the ribbon, as in 'oh thats nice' and 'get on with their life'.. and others who 'dont get' the ribbon, and fear change.. and spend the rest of their lives thrusting their opinion that it sucks to anybody that dares speak of it..

I think the ratio is interestingly close to that of a normal person to people who wear tinfoil hats.

The tab menu (on the far right of the tab bar in Firefox 3.5).  In 3.5, it lists the tabs that are open as a menu; in future versions it will show previews of open tabs (it almost did for 3.5, but the feature got pulled as the UI for it wasn't really ready yet).

The icon is already used in the OSX Firefox theme.  Don't know why it's not there on Windows.

Did they ever fix the bug where they scan every file in your %temp% folder on startup? That was pretty lame.

things go on as always

Its about getting rid of the menu bar, then Page and Tools become the logical buttons for menus. Microsoft was right and ahead of everyone else when they decided not all programs need menu bars.

But yes --- finally a version of Firefox that looks great unthemed.

Yes, but even so it only scanned them on first-run startup as a means of generating a random seed for cryptography.

I don't see a ribbon.

It's definitely an improvement over the circa-1998 interface they have now, but it's a blatant copy of IE7's interface.

That screenshot looks amazing. A truly beautiful windows app.

Sorry I was going for "WordPad." Although within the context I can see how it might be confusing.
